Microsoft marks CCleaner as a potentially unwanted application
It appears that Microsoft has officially marked CCleaner as a potentially unwanted Windows application. The Redmond giant was never a fan of 3rd party registry cleaner apps so this did not come as a huge surprise.
CCleaner is the application that can help you clear your online tracks, free up disk space, and help you to manage your machine so it runs faster. According to the author, the CCleaner app has been downloaded and used over 2.5 billion times.
No matter what the owners say CCleaner provides features and services that are already built-in Windows 10 and therefore so this and all similar apps are practically obsolete these days.
According to Microsoft certain CCleaner installers that are free or have a 14-day trial period usually come bundled with apps without an option to opt-out for installing these apps. More info can be found here.
Nevertheless, the company that owns CCleaner vendors won’t be happy with this change and it will be interesting to see their reaction.
