Western Digital has been hacked!
Cybercriminals who have recently managed to hack into the computer system of Western Digital are now asking for a large payout.
Earlier this month, Western Digital reported a network security incident where cybercriminals managed to breach its computer systems. Soon after that incident, the attackers contacted the company and blackmailed them for a large payout, otherwise stolen data would be disclosed to the public. The attackers also said they would share the method they used to breach the WD systems.
To prove they had actually managed to breach the company data, the attackers publicly shared screenshots along with a few files. Hackers also said that they have managed to exploit vulnerabilities within the Western Digital infrastructures and have also managed to breach their Azure global administrator account for its tenant.
Apparently, for about 10 TB of stolen data, hackers are asking a minimum of 10 million USD.
WD’s spokesperson Charlie Smalling said that the company doesn’t want to comment or answer any questions about attackers’ claims. Also, the company didn’t want to discuss what type or amount of data was stolen in the attack.
