Back in January HP announced its ambitious goal of turning printing into a subscription service, and now they are ready with the All-In Plan. This plan offers HP customers a set number of printed pages each month for a monthly fee, requiring a two-year commitment and possible overage charges.
According to HP, the All-In Plan is an all-encompassing printing subscription that emphasizes convenience and ongoing support to maintain printer performance. However, committing to this plan requires a two-year contract after an initial thirty-day period.
HP’s CEO, Enrique Lorres, noted the company’s objective of simplifying printing and making it a subscription service for customer convenience and sustainability. The All-In Plan offers simplicity with three printer options: HP Envy ($6.99/mo and up), HP Envy Inspire ($8.99/mo and up), and HP OfficeJet Pro ($12.99/mo and up), each providing different features and capabilities.
All of these printers are double-sided color printers, allowing users to print in color without additional ink costs. HP ensures timely delivery of ink when needed and offers round-the-clock support, along with next-day service for replacements.
While HP promises no upfront costs, cancellation becomes a challenge after the initial thirty days. Monthly fees vary based on the selected plan and printing volume, with overage charges for exceeding the allotted pages. After two years, an upgrade to a newer printer model will be offered.
HP’s All-In Plan, despite its benefits, is still a subscription with a potential cancellation fee after the 30-day grace period. This model raises concerns about users being committed even if they do not fully utilize the printing service.
