Microsoft Account Sign-In process changes coming soon
If you use a Microsoft account to access their services, you should know about a significant change on the horizon. Microsoft recently updated its support page to announce a new sign-in process coming soon.
Starting February 2025, when you log in to any Microsoft product or service, you’ll be kept signed in automatically unless you explicitly sign out or use private browsing. Currently, you get asked if you’d like to stay signed in. Saying “yes” means you won’t have to log in again next time while saying “no” requires you to re-enter your credentials each time.
This upcoming change will remove that option. If you prefer not to have your login credentials remembered by the browser, you must either log out manually or use private browsing. This update will affect your Microsoft account page, Microsoft 365, Outlook, and a variety of other Microsoft sites and apps.
For your personal computer, staying logged in might be a convenient time-saver. However, automatic logouts are crucial for maintaining your security and privacy on shared or public devices or on a laptop you frequently use outside of your home or office. This change prevents unauthorized access to your device and keeps your information safe. If you usually rely on an authenticator app or security key, staying logged in means you won’t need to provide that second authentication step anymore.
