Microsoft confirms three new features for its Edge browser
Microsoft has just confirmed that they are adding three new features or utilities to the Edge browser. As stated in its official M365 roadmap page the new utilities will include Calculator, unit converter, and Internet speed test. All of these will be located in the browser sidebar.
The new features should become available for the Edge stable release in August of 2022, while Insiders with the Edge Canary channel can already test new utilities. Insiders can also test other new tools including a translator, a world clock, and a dictionary. Microsoft Edge’s popularity is on the rise, especially now when IE has reached the EOL, and many enterprise users are now switching to the Edge browser.
Other features that are planned for the Edge browser include a built-in VPN and a Games Bar. Many of these features are already included in Windows, so it’s unclear why is Microsoft loading this into the browser.
Hopefully, after all of these feature integrations, the Edge browser won’t become a resource hog or a process that will consume a large number of system resources which might result in users switching to other browsers.
