Following recent automatic Windows Updates, named KB5028244 and KB5027303, many users experienced issues that resulted in Microsoft suspending the distribution of those updates temporarily. To easily address this issue, the Windows team is utilizing the “Known Issue Rollback” feature within the Windows system.
Reported issues are related to difficulties in playing videos after installing mentioned updates. Microsoft has officially confirmed the existence of the issue, attributing it to a bug present in the WVC1 and VC-1 video codecs. As a result, Windows 10 and Windows 11 apps that use these codecs may encounter video playback and recording errors. Furthermore, some cameras and webcams have also been affected by this bug.
In response to the complications caused by the updates, Microsoft rather quickly released an emergency fix. Using the Known Issue Rollback feature, affected users now only need to wait for the automatic resolution of the problem. The distribution of the KIR update started on July 25. Meanwhile, the original updates were suspended, and after addressing the bugs, the updated version was made available once again.
The affected systems include Windows 11 versions 21H2 and 22H, as well as Windows 10 version 22H2.
