Microsoft introduces Windows 10 Beta channel
Microsoft announced a new beta channel for Windows Insiders on Tuesday, allowing Windows 10 users to test upcoming features before their general release. This initiative targets Windows 10 users, encouraging them to join or switch to the new channel, even if their PCs are not ready for Windows 11.
The Windows 10 beta channel should gather user feedback to refine new features before the official release. The focus is on version 22H2, the last version of Windows 10, as stated by Microsoft in 2023. This move comes despite Microsoft’s push for users to transition to Windows 11, released over a year earlier, which many see as a departure from Windows 10’s principles.
Details on the new features for Windows 10 remain vague. Microsoft has only mentioned “features and improvements” without guarantees of their final release. However, this new beta program does not alter the end of free support for Windows 10, scheduled for October 14, 2025. Passionate users can opt for a paid extended security update (ESU) program to keep their systems secure.
It’s worth saying that Microsoft has been gradually reducing support for Windows 10, which, even though being nine years old, remains popular among users. Last year, the company ended the free upgrade path from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10. Now, users must purchase Windows 10 or upgrade their PCs to Windows 11. Additionally, Microsoft has been prompting Windows 10 users to switch to Windows 11, even if their hardware is not compatible.
This new beta program seems at odds with Microsoft’s efforts to phase out Windows 10, but loyal users can still enjoy the new features in its final years.
