Microsoft has just released the KB5045594 update for Windows 10, offering an optional patch you’ll need to install manually. This update could provide a welcome solution if you’ve been facing issues on your Windows 10 device, especially involving USB connections.
Many users have been reporting specific problems when using USB-connected printers and scanners. Some have seen unintended network command texts being printed, while others have struggled with scanner drivers not installing properly via USB. This update directly addresses these USB-related concerns, ensuring smoother device operation for those affected.
Beyond fixing these issues, the KB5045594 update also introduces a redesigned account manager in the Start menu. Microsoft describes this new layout as more user-friendly, making viewing and managing your account easier. You can now change users by clicking the ellipses (…) next to “Sign out,” while the “Lock” option has been moved to the power menu. This update is being rolled out gradually, so not everyone may have access to it right away.
Additionally, the update resolves some other bugs, including a fix for a blue screen crash (error code 0x3B) that occurred during upgrades from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
To install this update, navigate to the Windows Settings, then “Update & Security,” and search for KB5045594. Alternatively, you can download it directly from the Microsoft Update Catalog. Though it’s optional for now, Microsoft plans to make this update automatic in November 2024 as part of their regular Patch Tuesday release, meaning it will soon install itself without manual intervention.
