Microsoft urges Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11
Once again Microsoft is urging Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11, and it appears that now they’re doing it more forcefully. Microsoft started displaying full-screen advertisements for Windows 11 to some Windows 10 users, especially when they installed optional updates from January 2024 on their Windows 10 PCs.
Microsoft is taking an aggressive approach, not just with small pop-ups but full-screen ads covering the entire display. Additionally, users have to navigate through several sliders. There are four slides in total that users must click through if they want to stick with Windows 10. In these slides, Microsoft highlights various benefits of Windows 11 but doesn’t emphasize potential issues, such as hardware incompatibility, that might arise during the upgrade.
In the bottom right corner of the slider, there are two buttons. One allows users to decline the upgrade, while the other one, highlighted in color, initiates the download of Windows 11 in the background. Microsoft is attracting users with the promise that they can revert to Windows 10 within ten days of upgrading to Windows 11, with the assurance that all existing files will be retained during the process.
Microsoft’s strong push for Windows 11 promotion is most probably caused by data from Statcounter, which shows that 66.45 percent of all analyzed Windows computers currently run Windows 10, with only 27.82 percent running Windows 11.
Microsoft will stop providing updates for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. However, users will be able to continue using Windows 10 and receiving security updates with the “Extended Security Updates” program, which is available to consumers and ensures secure usage of Windows 10 until 2028.
