Microsoft has stopped support for Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 operating systems. This means that Internet Explorer 11 will no longer receive security and critical patches and thus will become vulnerable to systems powered by Windows 7.
The company urges users to immediately replace the IE11 browser with a new, recently released Microsoft Edge browser based on the Chromium engine.
Microsoft has also confirmed a security flaw affecting Internet Explorer that is currently being exploited by hackers. The company has no plans to provide an immediate fix for it even though all supported Windows versions are affected by the flaw including Windows 7 that reached EOL last week.
The discovered vulnerability could allow the hacker to remotely run malicious code on the affected machine. This bug could very well be quite similar to a recently discovered bug disclosed by Mozilla last week.
The U.S government cybersecurity advisory department has issued a warning about this vulnerability on its web pages.
