Microsoft has uncovered a new problem in its Windows 11 24H2 update that disrupts gaming systems and causes an unexpected audio issue. The glitch forces external USB digital audio converters (DACs), such as the Creative Sound BlasterX G6, to jump to maximum volume without warning, creating a jarring user experience.
This unusual bug appears in specific scenarios: when the system wakes from sleep, when a DAC is swiftly plugged in and unplugged, or when the volume is changed right before disconnecting the device. Microsoft attributes the issue to a timing error in the AudioEndpointBuilder service and has promised to provide a fix soon.
The rollout of Windows 11 24H2 has been anything but smooth. Marketed as a cutting-edge, AI-optimized version of Windows, it has encountered a wide range of technical challenges since its release in early October. Many users reported network connectivity problems, such as devices failing to secure IP addresses or even locating Wi-Fi networks. Camera functionality has also been affected, with glitches in facial and object recognition.
Other issues include frequent crashes with applications like Voicemeeter, caused by driver conflicts, and difficulties installing the update on certain budget Asus models, such as the X415KA and X515KA. These complications forced Microsoft to block the update for these devices. Time-related bugs have added to the frustration. Non-admin users have been unable to change time zones due to an issue in the Date & Time settings. Additional complaints involve incorrect time synchronization following sleep mode or daylight saving time changes.
Despite these challenges, users still have the option to update to Windows 11 24H2 through the Windows Update section in Settings or by downloading ISO files manually. While the update’s potential is clear, Microsoft has a long road ahead to address the ongoing issues and restore user confidence.
