Microsoft recently released Windows 11 Build 26241 to Insiders in the Canary Channel. This update is minor but introduces a useful new feature: you can now drag and drop files between breadcrumbs in File Explorer. This new functionality simplifies file management, especially for those who organize files in subfolders.

Breadcrumbs in File Explorer show the path to your current location, like This PC > Windows (C:) > Program Files. With this update, you can drag files directly into a breadcrumb, reducing the need for extra clicks to move files.

Interestingly, while this feature is highlighted in the release notes for Build 26241, it appears to have already been included in a Windows 11 Preview update from the end of May, available to non-Insiders as well.

A new thin border now highlights selected files or folders, making them easier to see while an issue causing File Explorer to crash when accessing the Home section has now been fixed.

The taskbar has also been updated with improved visibility for app icon flashing, making it easier to notice. Notifications have also been updated with new logic for suggesting when to turn off notifications for certain apps, which now require a longer period of inactivity before triggering.

Despite some minor issues, the update brings helpful enhancements, particularly for File Explorer users.
