Windows 11 recently received the latest cumulative update named Moment 3. However, complaints are emerging regarding several issues tied to the newest update. The primary problems with patch KB5028185 for Windows 11 22H2 include performance issues and problems with unstable internet connections.
To start with performance issues, it’s worth saying that the persistent sluggish SSD issue remains unresolved with this update. On the Reddit topic that announced the update, many users have reported that their PCs are running slowly or experiencing sluggish boot times after the update.
For example, one Reddit user stated that “KB5028185 is trash. Thanks to this update restart times and startup times have significantly increased, while the Welcome Screen takes 17 seconds compared to 4½ seconds with the previous update. Shutdown time has also increased and uninstalling the update resolves the problem.
Some of the other users reported low gaming performance after the update. After uninstalling the update, everything returned to normal.
Moving to the second major issue being reported, it appears that both Wi-Fi and Ethernet (wired) connections are being affected. Several Reddit users said that they’ve lost internet connection after the update, whether using the Wi-Fi or wired connection with the router. Some users also reported that they were unable to start the firewall.
There have also been complaints about general Wi-Fi network stability.
The third issue arises with the Windows Security icon in the system tray which started to malfunction for some users after the update. Clicking on it does nothing, although virus scans continue to work fine. Multiple users have confirmed this glitch.
Unfortunately, the Moment 3 update seems to be problematic in many ways. If you have installed the July cumulative update and encountered any of these issues, including random crashes, a temporary solution is to uninstall the KB5028185 patch.
However, this approach has its downsides, as it leaves your Windows 11 PC without the latest security fixes. Additionally, the update will eventually reinstall itself.
One suggestion proposed by the Reddit user is to disable the Core Isolation (Memory Integrity) since some users claim that it is the main cause of system lag and crashes. Disabling this feature can potentially resolve performance or internet issues. To do this, search for ‘Core Isolation,’ access the panel, disable Memory Integrity, and then reboot the system.
It’s important to say that Core Isolation is a security feature that should ideally remain enabled to protect your computer against potential exploits. Therefore, Windows 11 users are now left with two options: without the update or sacrificing an essential security feature. If the problems with KB5028185 are significantly affecting your experience, you may consider taking the chance but do so at your own risk.
