Microsoft has recently updated the Photos app in Windows 11, bringing substantial changes to its framework and functionality. This large shift involves moving the Photos app from the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) to the Windows App SDK which makes the app more compatible with the latest versions of Windows.

Acording to the latest information, users in the Windows Insider Program are already using the new version, and it’s gradually being rolled out to all Windows 11 users.A key benefit of this update is the use of WebView2 technology, which enhances image rendering quality and introduces AI-powered improvements.

The new Photos app also brings practical improvements. It now operates at a medium integrity level by default, aligning with standard security settings for most Windows activities. Additionally, users can now save edited photos in the original location without having to choose the destination manually.

The update has also streamlined the app’s processes. Instead of multiple processes, the Photos app now runs a single process labeled ‘Photos,’ simplifying the task of finding and closing it in Task Manager. However, there is a trade-off as the updated app now takes longer to load due to the new framework. Despite this, the overall improvements make the Photos app more efficient and user-friendly.
