Windows 11 is about to introduce a convenient option for repairing a broken operating system installation without the need for a complete re-installation. This new feature should be soon integrated into Windows Update and should ease the re-installation process for users who have technical issues.
It’s worth saying that users will not have to download an entire copy of Windows 11, create a bootable USB, and go through the lengthy installation process. Furthermore, installed applications will be retained after the reinstall.
Currently available in the Canary channel of the Windows 11 Insider program, this feature is now open for public testing. Considering this is an early beta, there is a possibility that the new feature might not function properly or potentially could cause issues.
Once the feature becomes available to everyone, it will be accessible under System | Recovery under the Settings tool, labeled as “Fix problems using Windows Update.” When activated, the computer will automatically download the latest stable version of Windows 11 and install it, leaving non-Windows files on the system intact.
And while the repair process comes with many benefits, it’s worth saying that some user settings can be reset to their default configurations.
Microsoft stated that this repair capability is mainly designed to maintain device security and ensure that systems are up to date. Its primary focus is to safeguard and enhance the user’s computing experience.
