The Windows 11 24H2 update has been plagued with issues since its release, with users reporting everything from network connectivity problems to blue screen crashes. Despite Microsoft’s efforts to patch these bugs, some fixes have failed to install, prompting the company to block the update on affected devices.
Adding to the list of troubles, a new issue has emerged: Microsoft Office apps like Word and Excel are crashing on systems running certain antivirus software. Specifically, this occurs when CrowdStrike’s Falcon sensor antivirus is installed. This software, known for its advanced cybersecurity features, appears to interfere with Windows 11’s functionality if the “Enhanced Exploitation Visibility Prevention Policy” setting is enabled, causing first- and third-party applications to stop responding.
While it’s unclear if other antivirus programs are also impacted, this issue seems limited to CrowdStrike so far. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem, adding affected devices to the update block list and working with CrowdStrike to resolve the conflict.
This isn’t the first compatibility issue Microsoft has faced with the 2024 update. In recent weeks, they collaborated with SSD manufacturers to fix hardware crashes affecting specific devices. While the current issue primarily impacts managed IT environments, individual users experiencing other Windows 11 24H2 problems may want to consider rolling back to a previous version.
