Windows 12 to launch in June 2024?
According to a report from Taiwan, Microsoft is planning to unveil Windows 12 sooner than many anticipated, specifically in June 2024. This release is said to come along with the introduction of a new series of “AI PCs.”
Microsoft has not officially confirmed any details about a new Windows version, and if the rumored announcement in June 2024 is true, it would be a relatively swift move, only two years after the launch of Windows 11. The implementation of ChatGPT-powered Bing and Copilot features might just be the beginning of what’s to come. Some earlier reports have hinted at a Windows 12 debut in 2024.
The information comes from statements made by Acer’s Chairman and CEO, Jason Chen, and Quanta’s Chairman, Barry Lam, during a recent technology exhibition in Taiwan. They hinted at the launch of Windows 12 in June 2024, followed by a range of new AI-powered computing devices, which they hope consumers will choose from their respective companies.
Currently, the AI models that we’re using are stored in the cloud, running on powerful AI accelerators. However, everyday devices are increasingly equipped with machine-learning hardware. For instance, Intel’s upcoming Meteor Lake laptop chips are expected to prioritize AI processing.
The year 2024 appears to be the year for an AI-focused marketing push, but instead of promoting a cloud service, companies like Intel, Microsoft, and Acer may reveal the latest computers powered by integrated AI acceleration. A swift transition to Windows 12 could also provide Microsoft with an opportunity to place a significant focus on the AI experience, a factor that might not have been a top priority during the development of Windows 11.
The rumored release date of Windows 12 in June 2024 may not necessarily mark the time when users will be able to install Windows 12. It could follow a pattern similar to the Windows 11 rollout, involving an announcement in June, insider testing throughout the summer, and an official release in the fall of 2024. Until the release of Windows 12, we can expect Microsoft to continue enhancing Windows 11 with additional AI features.
