Fmustang76 Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 (edited) First off I just wanted to also say thanks Ricktendo64 And Everyone Else That Contributed!!! Sidebar Works great!!!Update 7/14/07: NEW VERSION!! Built using .NET 2.0 which is required and can be downloaded below:Now is anyone interested in a way to auto extract the downloaded gadget files?? I recommend using Version 3 if you have or can install .NET 2.0The new version 3 does not use a batch file and was built using .Net 2.0. If you want the batch file option or the exe wrapped batch file so that the batch window is not seen during extraction (Gadget Extractor Version 2), I have left the ones I created below in the download section. All versions only work with XP and expect the sidebar be installed in the below folder which is the default install folder. If it is not, download the manual install and edit the batch and registry files accordingly. Version 2 and above should no longer require 7zip be installedRequired Sidebar Install Path: "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\"I give no guarantees that these will work but please let me know if they do or don't work and I'll do my best to fix them if posssible. Those that can, feel free to modify or fix the batch file for any reason or to improve it. Anyone that wants the souce code just PM me. If it works now or after modification maybe it can be included with the sidebar install package. All files were scanned for viruses just before upload using AVG Free with most recent database.Fmustang76-------------------------------------DOWNLOAD SECTION----------------------------------NEW VERSIONIf you want to try version 3, it is packaged into a standard windows installer. This one requires .NET 2.0 be installed.Gadget Extractor Version 3 Package.NET 2.0 Redistibution Package 22.4MBHow to extract gadgets after Gadget Extractor Version 3 is installed:1. Download gadget and save to hard drive.2. Double click gadget file to extractor 3. Open gadget extractor and select gadget file to extract. If the gadgets file type association becomes corrupted, just run Gadget Extractor to auto fix the file type associations(version 3 Only).OLD VERSIONSIf you want to try Version 2, it is packaged into a standard windows installer and installs everything needed.Gadget Extractor Version 2 PackageIf you want to use the batch file itself or manually install download the file below.Manual Install Gadget Extractor Package Edited July 15, 2007 by Fmustang76
Fmustang76 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 (edited) Since there is a problem with with what seems to be the wireless api for XP, and several of us want or try to use the wireless network gadgets, I have removed the problem code from the original gadgets so they will work with the Vista RTM Sidebar as a tempoary fix. I have left everything else as it was but because of the this problem, they do have limited functionality, as they will not display the wireless SSID or network address, which was causing the delay-load errors for those gadgets. Otherwise, as designed, they do work as signal strength meters displaying whether there is a connection, how strong a connection, and is it a secure connection or not, with the options depending on the gadget. Go to the download website and select the gadget to download.Network Gadget Download WebsiteI have only tested these on my laptop so I give no guarantee they will work but please let this forum know if they work for you or not.ThanksFmustang76 Edited March 17, 2007 by Fmustang76

XZ0r Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 HiFirstly i gotta say that this sidebar is the best thing to ever happen to xp/server 2003, because you can use the gadgets from www.gallery.live.com unlike thoosjes sidebar which cant support user made gadgets. Now because i had a hard time getting this sidebar to work properly not mentioning the gadgets to work on the sidebar, ive put together a package that includes all the install files needed to install the sidebar on xp, including how to add gadgets and skins, sooo this package is for those very confused users. If i may rick could i upload the file or not please tell me if you dont want me toXZ0r :questionmark:

HardDisk Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 (edited) Dude, this sidebar port is the next best thing since the idea of porting console games (EMU) to PC ... o.k. maybe a bit over exaggerated.. BUT the API alone is worth a coder's award. Who knows maybe someone will find a way to have xp/vista run with Linux's XGL.. ha ha wouldn't that be a blast. Keep up the good work. Kane3162 Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 hey rick, you think you can remake the install's or whatever needs to be changed to get this to work on XP x64.... I have gotten everything else to install but I cannot seem to get your sidebar to install (doing this manually i didn't want to integrate it...)THX if you can
ricktendo Posted April 15, 2007 Author Posted April 15, 2007 The install probably fails because I did not include regsvr32.exe in with the sidebar files... This is for 2k3 compatibility, the regsvr32.exe from XP will not work on 2k3 and vice versa-Install VAIOXP (SideNote: The VAIO Shell Extention will not show up in XP x64 but there is a trick on how to get this to show... But I forgot how, something about loading a seperate explorere.exe thats located in a seperate folder)- So when installing this manually copy regsvr32.exe from system32 and place it in the same directory as Sidebar.cab and Sidebar.inf- Right Click on Sidebar.inf and select install (error pops up)- Browse to Sidebar.cab and hit Select then OK- Finally copy Sidebar.inf to X:\WINDOWS\inf (make sure to turn on "Show Hidden Files")- Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Sidebar uninstall section hit the Change button (this will register the sidebar DLL and EXE files)- Start the sidebar
Kane3162 Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 from what I can tell.... nothing pops up.... it registers an entry in teh Add/Remove.... however it goes no further.... kinda like app kill but unintended.... this sucks..... x64 works great with 8GB but no sidebar is killing me (and Vista SUCKS)
CBC888 Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 (edited) Is the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package still required for this new version 2.4? Edited July 23, 2007 by ricktendo64
MicHardw Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 (edited) Hi!I built an integrated WinXP installation disc using nLite 1.3 final. No errors during integration or installation. Anyway Windows Sidebar fails to start and I'm suggested to send an error report to M$. It's about a System.io.filenotfoundexcpetion of .NET FW 2.0: I can read this in the Event Viewer.Uhm.. MicP.S.: I'm running WinXP on a virtual machine created with VirtualBox (VMWare clone): prior to formatting my drive I want to be sure the "nLited XP" works fine. Edited April 17, 2007 by MicHardw
ricktendo Posted April 17, 2007 Author Posted April 17, 2007 @ KaneSorry I'm fresh out of ideas@ CBC888 No you don't need it cuz its included in the VAIO MSI Installer@ MicHardw - Did you integrate the VAIO addon?- Do you use the RyanVM Updatepack and if you DIDN'T use it did you integrate the alternate WLan - API hotfix AddOn thats above?- Did you use the latest nLite?- How about IE7 and WMP11 addons. Did you integrate them also?- What does your error say? Here are some things to try:Install VAIO if you havent integrated itInstall this WLan Hotfix and let me know if any of this helped
Carillo Gallardo Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Hi Ricks! Using your new 2k3 Vista Sidebar Addon (v2.4) i've encountered a problem that i've already solved now but maybe explaining it i can help someone...So, everytime i tried to run the sidebar i got the "famous" delay-load error, that on windows xp is caused by wlan but is very strange on win 2k3... After some experiments i noticed that some files in your Sidebar.cab have a different date (different day) from those in ^SoKoOLz^'s installer... Then i've replaced your files with those from the installer, i've repacked your addon, i've tried it and everything works! No more delay-load error but only a perfect sidebar! These are the files that i've replaced:sbdrop.dllsidebar.exewlsrvc.dllwlsrvc.dll.manifestByezzzzz :welcome:
CBC888 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 @ CBC888 No you don't need it cuz its included in the VAIO MSI InstallerThanks for the reply...What is the difference between your VAIO package - link provided above:http://www.sokoolz.com/addons/r64/Ricks_VA..._AddOn_v1.1.rarand the "official" one available from the from Vista, to XP website:http://www.fromvistatoxp.com/vaio/vaioxp_b2r3.4_feb02.zipThanks!
ricktendo Posted April 18, 2007 Author Posted April 18, 2007 @ Carillo GallardoThanks for the bug report@ CBC888Both are the exact same installer (extract the exe and you will see its the same msi installer, just that i make it silent using 7zip)
CBC888 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 @ CBC888Both are the exact same installer (extract the exe and you will see its the same msi installer, just that i make it silent using 7zip)Thanks, that's good to know. There still seems to be much confusion about the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package, however, since most websites still indicate that this needs to be installed - even with the latest version of VAIOXP (which includes "the merge modules for the Visual C++ redistributable modules").
ipd56 Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 hi rick can you help when i open some gadgets i get error like this. i got XP and VAIO and get a error " a runtime error has occurred. do you wish to debug? Line: 180 Error: 'settingsclosed' is undfined"pls help thx
ricktendo Posted April 22, 2007 Author Posted April 22, 2007 Sounds like a script error, all I can think of is make sure you have ALL the required software installed: IE7, WMP11, WLAN API (requires MSXML6)

I like the istat wireless gadget.. but it shows 2 ip address maybe it's better to show only 1 ip address and the other one is the name of the network you are connected to
Gorki Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Hey rick.. is there any temperture monitoring gadget for this styler so you cold monitor CPU, GPU ,etc temps? And onem ore Q about Windows Sidebar Styler...is there any folder root about it? I added all those things mentioned on first page including .net 3.0 but I cant' find Styler options? Am I missing something? Added (Ricks_VAIOXP-b2r3.4_AddOn_v1.1, Ricks_VistaRTMFonts_AddOn_v1.1, Ricks_VistaRTMSidebar_AddOn_v2.4, Ricks_WindowsSidebarStyler2.0.5_AddOn)
ricktendo Posted April 22, 2007 Author Posted April 22, 2007 @ GorkyYou have to make sure that you put Windows Sidebar Styler AFTER dotNet 2 or 3 in the SVCPACK Install Order, the installer will fail if it does not detect at least dotNet 2 installedBout the temp gadget, I think there is one for fanspeed and everest ultimate is said to have one (but it only works if everest is running)EDIT: Yep it has a Gadget and it works on the XP sidebar also (im uploading the Everest AddOn now)

And net.3 is requred. Do you think that changing the install order in Nlite could do the trick?
