    WinCert downtime

Update: We've blocked two additional IP addresses and yesterday we had only 2,5 GB. Now that is reasonable bandwidth consumption for our site.
  2. but the link wasn't working Rick. I tried before editing this topic. Well, I'm glad that you've fixed it. Thx
  3. Link fixed, Rick, please check if I pointed it to the right file

    WinCert downtime

As you may have noticed, we were down once again because we had 21GB of traffic today and only 6GB yesterday. Our host support team acted pretty fast and have put our site back online in just several minutes. I also got a reply from our host that they blocked one IP address server wide which is located in Australia: 61.9.215.94 We had a large traffic going on from and to this IP address, so it had to be blocked now. Hopefully, our bandwidth issues are behind us now, if not :nunchaku:

  10. Dear members and guests, as you can see our default skin has been redesigned to better match our frontpage (http://www.wincert.net). With this done the whole site now has the same colors and looks more professional We also wanted to make it as "light" as possible, so it is even more friendly for our dial-up users. We're still have some minor bugs for IE8 and Chrome users, but hey, those browsers are still in beta stage anyway If you notice any issues related with the new skin, please report in this topic. Thanks, WinCert.net Administration Team

    WinCert downtime

I spoke with several people and they said that I need a dual core processor. Celeron could be a bottleneck for us. Also 512RAM might be enough, but I'm worried about the processor. On the other hand, this could be our last hope.

    WinCert downtime

Thx Kels, but they're to expensive for that what we need (semi-dedi or dedicated servers with dual-quad core processors and 1 Gig of RAM). Anyway, I've arranged with our current host to monitor bandwidth usage and see if there will be any suspicious activity. I've also enabled hotlink protection so pictures or links can't be posted on other sites and therefore those sites won't steal our precious bandwidth.. I'm sorry to say, but there may be more downtimes, (probably short), until we fix this issue. Please be patient as I'm trying to find the best solution for us. Cheers

    WinCert downtime

And again, we were down, and again because we exceeded our daily limit of 20 GB. If we have a better day we pass 40GB, so another problem emerged. I really don't know what to do or where to go, we're moving more often than some circus, but that's just because I'd like to find a better server for us. I'm thinking about iweb's dedicated servers for 100$/month, but that's huge amount for a month I'm afraid to go back to swiftnic where we didn't have bandwidth issues, but we had 1 host hack and one unknown downtime of whole Swiftnic site couple of days after the first hack (perhaps another hack?). The biggest problem of swiftnic is a lack of support, my tickets are still opened, and I didn't get much replies from them. WinCert.net hosting history circus. - I can't even remember the first hosting company, I only remember downtimes on their shared hosting server. - MSFN Hosting - We were satisfied until our traffic jumped which increased the need for processor time, mostly because of large php requests. We crashed MSFN hosting server along with other 100 sites on it several times before we moved to another server. - Cano2 Hosting - Same thing as it was on MSFN hosting server. Number of crashes: 2 - SwiftNic Hosting - Very satisfied at start, but then problems emerged when some fool decided to hack us. After that we had some unexplained downtime and therefore I had to move once again, mostly because of lack of support. - JaguarPC - (current hosting) we were very satisfied at start, but now we have problems with our daily bandwidth limit which is not enough for us. Actually, maybe we have problems again with some schmuck that doesn't have any friends and has decided to disturb us in this way.. What's next, I don't know, I'd appreciate any help and advice I can get..
  14. If you've seen the screenshots of Google Chrome on XP vs Vista, you've probably noticed that the interface looks completely different. If you want to make your XP version use a slick black theme, you can do so with a custom hack. For those of you unsure what we're talking about, here's the default XP theme: And here's Google Chrome in XP with the ZOMBRE custom theme installed: It actually looks somewhat similar to the Vista theme in terms of slickness. Installing the Custom Theme You'll first need to download the patched theme file from the link at the bottom. Next, open up an explorer window, and paste in the following to the address bar: %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\0.2.149.27\Themes You should see a file called default.dll, which you want to make a copy of before you do anything else. Next you'll want to paste the default.dll contained in the theme's zip file into this directory. You should be prompted to overwrite the current file (which you should have backed up). At this point, you can start up chrome and you'll see the new theme. Removing the Theme Simply delete the new default.dll file and rename the copy back to the original defualt.dll name. That's all there is to it. Important Note You should note that these themes will have to be re-patched every time a new version of Google Chrome is released, which could be quite often. I'm not really recommending using these themes, but we like to explain how to do things here for those that want to try it out. 16. If you have ever tried to format a USB thumb drive or memory stick, you may have noticed that the only options you get are FAT and FAT32 file systems. This is the default behavior in Windows XP. However, with some slight tweaking of settings, you can actually format your removable storage devices in NTFS format, including external hard drives, etc. Of course, there is a reason why Windows defaults the formatting of removable storage to FAT and FAT32. There are actually a few advantages and disadvantages to formatting a USB drive in NTFS format, so we
  17. One of the most annoying things about Microsoft Windows Vista is User Account Control and all the warnings it pops up to ask if you just did something you really wanted to do. The temptation is strong to turn off UAC warnings by disabling the controls, but that causes more problems, like making it even more difficult to do some things in Vista. Fortunately, there's a better way. The annoyance of UAC pop-ups is unfortunately front-loaded: they happen most often when Vista is new and you're installing new applications and downloading files more often. The temptation is strong to kill them, because it's easy. Just go to Start > Control Panel > Security > Security Center > Other Security Settings. But the problem with shutting off UAC is that other security-conscious Vista components may decide it's just not safe to run without them, like the Windows Installer. The UAC pop-up isn't just a simple "Are You Sure?" warning. Responding affirmatively to the pop-up actually elevates your permissions, if your user account is in the Administrator group and your permissions can be elevated. Luckily, there's a switch that can be set to automatically accept all UAC warnings, and using this switch rather than disabling UAC is a good thing because it leaves Vista security in place. Click Start and Control Panel. Switch to Classic View (if you haven't already) and click on the Administration Tools icon. In the list that opens click on Local Security Policy, and in the next window, Local Policies (a tiny bit redundant, but all UIs can't be perfect -- If UAC is running you'll get a UAC pop-up somewhere in here). In the Local Policies list click Security Options, and scroll down to "User Account Control: Behavior" (the full title of the policy is "User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode". Double-click the title and in the dialog box change its setting from "Prompt for Consent" to "Elevate without prompting." Click OK and you're much safer now
  18. Oh, Windows. If there's one aspect of this operating system that's been a constant disappointment, it has to be its complete and utter inability to "remember" window settings. You know the drill: You go into, say, the Documents folder and customize the windows size, position, and the icon style used to display its contents. Then, when you revisit that folder later
  19. Well, in that case we'd have to buy a bigger hosting package with more bandwidth which costs more money, but as we didn't get much donations... If you remember, we had 2MB limit in our download manager. With this new hosting our limit rises up to 100MB per file, but then we can sign bankruptcy So, we will still provide access to our ftp server for staff members and sponosors where we have un metered bandwidth and disk space Edit: I forgot to tell that I can transfer all of those files to our ftp or just give you guys permissions to do so. I think that only staff members were using our downloads manager.
  20. Dear members, We're closing down Wincert download manager and also decreasing the limit for uploads. Why? Because we had a short downtime yesterday since we passed the 43 gigs of daily limit LOL.. I mean WTF? 43 Gigs for only one day Of course we still have our own un metered FTP server where we can upload/download at will. Here's the message from my host: Your account has been temporarily suspended for crossing the daily limit. You have used 43002.63 MB today. EDIT: LOL, I thought we exceeded the limit with 4,3 Gigs, but that's wrong, we exceeded it with 43 Gigs in one day Thanks for understanding. WinCert.net Admin team
