IF you can, you might be able to get away with putting in 2 X 1GB sticks. That'll give you 2gb's of ram, same as your putting in now. Then you can take the 2 512mb sticks you have and put them in another computer/sell them/keep them for spare parts But the best thing to do before doing anything, would be to get your motherboard manual and find out how much ram you can have in it.

ahh and I just took Vista off my laptop. Rik, you'll hate me for it, I'm using the stock XP theme right now So I'm not going to post a screenshot right now, maybe later when I get it all customized

Well, this is the official rant and rave post. So go ahead and rant about what ever you like (As long as it fits within the rules) in this topic. To start off, I say that those inconsiderate pedestrians and motorists have got to be the worst thing about living around here. They just start walking accross the street when they feel like it, or the motorists will just start to change lanes when your right next to them! That really pisses me off. I will put more ram and a bigger, faster hard drive in it later on. I'm getting all the parts for free, so it's just a simple little server to play around with. Just saving files and sharing the printer and all that. I might make it an internet gateway, but I haven't really decided yet. Plus, my dad doesn't seem to think it's a good idea

I may be getting an AMD Duron 1300 cpu in the near future (2 - 6months, don't know and I don't want to rush it ) and I'm planning on turning it into a home server, ie) storing files and an internet gateway for security. Anyway, I was wondering what would be the best OS for this. The system will have a 1300MHz CPU, 192MB Ram, 13gb hdd (maybe bigger later on) and a wired ethernet card (motherboard is an all in one, i have 4 of them already). Anyway, it will be a decent little machine once I build it up. I'm also thinking of putting an ATi Radeon 7000 64MB AGP Card in it to get some ram back. I can get server 2003 (Dad's work has a VLK of it) or I can load 2000 Server (they just got rid of a bunch of 2000 server machines with licenses on them ) or I can load my old version of NT 4 server (although I want USB support for a printer). Anyway, whats your take on it guys? Also post any ideas that I can use to enhance security, ie) firewalls and other stuff that I can use on it. Thanks much

I just bought a fairly low end laptop :lol: but I can run Vista Ultimate on it Intel Celeron M 430 @ 1.73GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB 1GB DDR RAM 533MHz ATi Radeon Xpress 200M 320MB 80GB SATA HDD 5400RPM 15.4" LCD Display Windows Vista Ultimate with Glass enabled Base score of 2.5 For some reason I can't get the friggin thing to save the refreshed performance index rating. I'm going to try and load ATi's full catalyst drivers in a minute. Edit: That didn't do it

I agree with this, but... there are drawbacks if you do it this way, you risk making something else not run right. Or maybe the damage done by the original problem is irreversable. I've seen it done by other people so many times. They have a small problem and they fix it, then the computer runs worse than it did with the problem, but its fixed. However, those people are satisfied with it :wacko:
