I think additional external *.txt file makes things a bit complicated to newcomers...etc. They could easily produce an "issue", when nothing is displayed besides progressbar... :g:
-
So basically 1.5 branch is mature enough for general release? (still wondering whats the actual difference between 1.4.1.1 and latest 1.5 beta)
-
I wont expect it to run... (hence this tab is for replacing/intergating files, not for running them) It just doesnt get copied into image at all. EDIT: Nevermind, I`m an complete idiot...by pasting preset file here, I discovered I made a small mistake in destination "path", hence I never found that file after integration... Also ofcourse it wouldnt run, as its in a completely wrong location... All works fine actually, sorry for reporting non-existent issue...

Actually only Users & ProgramData location can be specified via XML... And its already implemented in WinToolkit unattended creator.
-
Hmm...certainly, I cannot reproduce it...it wont sleep, no matter what, while WinToolkit is working...

Is it possible to make removed components optionally installable?
Etz replied to avada's topic in Win Toolkit
Actually itcan be done via unnatended.xml also... For example: <servicing> <package action="configure"> <assemblyIdentity name="Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package" version="6.1.7601.17514" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="" /> <selection name="InboxGames" state="false" /> <selection name="Internet Games" state="false" /> <selection name="MediaPlayback" state="true" /> <selection name="MediaCenter" state="false" /> <selection name="OpticalMediaDisc" state="false" /> <selection name="WindowsMediaPlayer" state="true" /> <selection name="Printing-XPSServices-Features" state="false" /> <selection name="Xps-Foundation-Xps-Viewer" state="true" /> <selection name="WindowsGadgetPlatform" state="true" /> <selection name="TelnetClient" state="true" /> <selection name="TabletPCOC" state="false" /> <selection name="FaxServicesClientPackage" state="false" /> <selection name="Printing-Foundation-InternetPrinting-Client" state="false" /> <selection name="Printing-Foundation-LPDPrintService" state="false" /> <selection name="Printing-Foundation-LPRPortMonitor" state="false" /> <selection name="Printing-Foundation-Features" state="true" /> <selection name="TelnetServer" state="false" /> <selection name="CorporationhelpCustomization" state="false" /> <selection name="RasRip" state="false" /> <selection name="SearchEngine-Client-Package" state="true" /> <selection name="SimpleTCP" state="false" /> <selection name="SNMP" state="false" /> <selection name="WMISnmpProvider" state="false" /> <selection name="TFTP" state="false" /> <selection name="TIFFIFilter" state="false" /> <selection name="Indexing-Service-Package" state="false" /> <selection name="Internet-Explorer-Optional-amd64" state="true" /> <selection name="NetFx3" state="true" /> <selection name="OEMHelpCustomization" state="false" /> <selection name="ServicesForNFS-ClientOnly" state="false" /> <selection name="ClientForNFS-Infrastructure" state="false" /> <selection name="NFS-Administration" state="false" /> <selection name="SUA" state="false" /> <selection name="MSRDC-Infrastructure" state="true" /> </package> <package action="configure"> <assemblyIdentity name="Microsoft-Windows-UltimateEdition" version="6.1.7601.17514" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="" /> <selection name="Microsoft-Hyper-V-Common-Drivers" state="true" /> <selection name="Microsoft-Hyper-V-Guest-Integration-Drivers" state="true" /> <selection name="Microsoft-Windows-NetFx3-OC-Package" state="true" /> <selection name="Microsoft-Windows-Printing-XPSServices-Package" state="true" /> <selection name="OpticalMediaDisc" state="true" /> </package> </servicing> Nothing is removed, but certain components are disabled/enabled as you would do it manually via "Programs and Features - Windows Components" menu. Only annoyance is, every edition has different subset of features, if something is specified in XML but doesnt exist on current edition, install will fail. Also OS version has to be specified, which tend to change on every SP. Also windows 7 and Windows 8 have different version and package subsets. -
Youre assumption is correct FYI also "stable" 1.4.0.77 behaves the very same way...
-
Currently it completely ignores *.vbs files. Scripts are visible in Preset file and GUI, but isnt actually integrated at all...

As you all know Windows 7 needs a bit help of booting EFI via USB: In the root of your USB drive, there is the \efi\microsoft\boot directory. Copy this directory one level up so the files also reside under \efi\boot. Extract bootmgfw.efi file from install.wim (Located in Windows\Boot\EFI\) Copy the bootmgfw.efi file to \efi\boot folder, and rename it to bootx64.efi. Maybe this process could be somehow automated via WinToolkit to avoid doing it all manually, when creating USB Boot media for Windows 7? Windows 8 doesnt need that, it boots fine directly from usb regardless of Legacy BIOS or EFI enviroment...

Actually there is setting to prevent sleep under options... (requested some time ago, by me). About that "globalization" themes still appearing, its a bug... Using currently SetupComplete.cmd to clean those up. Currently, it removes only wallpapers associated with those themes but theme files themselves are preserved and get installed... About those 2 drivers appearing, this is normal, those get installed anyway, even after clean installation. Those are pre-staged on a clean source already.

Adding Microsoft Update and disabling System Restore
Etz replied to mooms's topic in Win Toolkit Requests
For me it is usually enough to install Silverlight via WinToolkit Installer to get it activated... :g: -
[Howto] Removing / Changing a silent installer switch after Integration
Etz replied to yogurt's topic in Win Toolkit
Tested this part, it simply ignores it... Deleted Office 2010 Install Folder under Apps, nothing special happened, beside that Office 2010 wasnt installed as it didnt exist anymore... Anything else was still installed, no errors and popups happened, pretty convinient and elegant approach, if you ask me -
Adding Microsoft Update and disabling System Restore
Etz replied to mooms's topic in Win Toolkit Requests
I`m actually doing a clean modified install this weekend, so I could actually do Packet Capturing to actually see what is getting downloaded and from where, when this option is activated by hand. -
Adding Microsoft Update and disabling System Restore
Etz replied to mooms's topic in Win Toolkit Requests
Not possible, as this component gets directly downloaded from MS servers if enabled. Its not built in feature, so there is nothing you can enable in offline image. Workaround is to integrate something from Microsoft as Installer (Silverlight, NET framework, Security Essentials, etc) and if network is available during install, it gets downloaded and enabled automatically. -
Would there be possible to create option, to save 2 copies of "last completed session"? One would go to Last Session folder like it does now, another "extra copy" would be "optional" (if checkbox is ticked under options) and goes to "Installation Disc" root. Would be great for backlogging and archiving purposes.

Last time I actually used WPI was 8+ years ago, so sorry didnt know that fact... :shy: I misinterpreted it from the first post that it still does it today. Still I`m not a big fan of concept, that all installers get copied to destination drive before actual install happens... Thx for the clarification, will probably look to it again, because it definately is great option to do installations, especially if you dont want to modify anything else in installation image. Also it felt pretty flexible already back then...

In my opinion, it would look much better and made more sense, if "informative text" would be below progress bar. Quick scetches, about what I exactly mean: Also, it would be lot easier to read and understand, if each sentence would start from its own line.
-
Would there be possibility to remove McRip and KUC prefixes from folders, which WinToolkit automatically creates? Or at least make those optional? Anyway it is always makes more sense to use only one update source, which pretty much defeats the purpose of those.
-
Is it only me, or this tweak got removed from 1.5.x.x versions... :g: If it so, maybe Legolash2o can PM me how it exactly was enabled on older versions, so I could Include my "own tweak" when building image? Actually I always used it, because then only one set of codecs were needed.

Started to test latest W7T on Windows 8 Pro and found some stuff, that is probably Win 8 specific. 1) Adding Themes (themepacks) works, setting default theme doesnt (removes that theme from Personalization theme list instead) (Broken Theme file, this specific theme doesnt work on Win7 either) 2) Logon Background and Setup background changing doesnt work. 3) Switching to 64-bit WMP doesnt work, has no effect at all, this option doesnt even exist anymore. Basically all is pretty much as expected, if I have investigated how to fix those write into this topic. Maybe detection mechanism is needed, if working on Windows 8 images provide "modified tweaks" for things that work differently on Windows 8, also then on Windows 8 new dism could be used, which makes removals lot easier?

[AIO] Microsoft Visual B/C++/F#/J# Redistributable x86/x64
Etz replied to ricktendo's topic in Installer Repacks
Apparently still shows all installer windows and progressbars... :g: Oh well, will try to repackage it... Wondering only is there a somekind of reason, why there isnt option included to silently install the whole thing... EDIT: Nevermind, rebuilt it with additional /aiS switch, to have an option to install it all silently... -

Add this into that tweak to get at Desktop icon for WMP. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Setup\UserOptions] "DesktopShortcut"="yes"
-
I could provide you info how to create shortcut to desktop for it, via reg key... Unfortunately it doesnt help for star menu and taskbar, as WMP doesnt have separate registry keys for those. EDIT: If you decide to remove it, then ist fine... so far it creates a feeling like it completely removed it, for novice users.
