Need some help with Server 2003 R2
Mr_Smartepants replied to a topic in Microsoft Windows Server Family
Sounds like you are looking for PXE boot capability. M$ technet has an article on it here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722358%28WS.10%29.aspx I've never done it, but it seems easy enough. -
XPtsp GUI v3.0.0.26 - February 27, 2012
Mr_Smartepants replied to dougiefresh's topic in XP Theme Source Patcher
Just tested 2.0.1.0 with a fresh d/l of green.7z on XP Home SP3 (same addons as before). Black boot screen still shows XP Pro, not Home (even after first boot repatch). XP Pro works fine though, but it always had. -

Awesome. I'll get testing right away and report back. Thanks for the update. *Edit, Still getting the .inf failure in MCE. As a result, the bootscreen doesn't get modified and all other first-logon installers are broken. Testing Pro now, Home later. -
[request]symantec antivirus corporate edition
Mr_Smartepants replied to un4seendeathz's topic in Addon Discussion
If you don't know what install switches are, then you have no business building installer addons for your school/teacher/anyone else. And Kels is right, distributing software is illegal unless the EULA expressly authorizes distribution. -

I know you're having server issues, but is there any hope for 2.1.0.0 this weekend? I have an image on standby to test. -

Wow, that's bold asking someone to provide you with warez. No-one in their right mind would post a link to warez here. To install SAV silently, use: setup.exe /S /v/qb Must be installed at/after RunOnceEx. -
Intel Caught Cheating In 3DMark Benchmark
Mr_Smartepants replied to ezemjcsd's topic in Hardware Field
While it may be "capable", on-board Intel graphics will never be able to make modern games "playable". Games should not look like a powerpoint slideshow. -
This exact same thing happened to my trusty Plextor DVD burner. I had a power cut in the middle of a burn, and the burner function never worked again. I would get a "calibration" failure when attempting to burn any disc. The drive would "read" discs for a few months after the incident, but now sadly it does nothing but provide a cupholder to my tower. Your only solution is to replace the drive. They're cheap nowadays.

Looks good.

Windows XP Mode & Virtual Pc For Windows 7
Mr_Smartepants replied to Jatin Beniwal's topic in Microsoft Windows 7
I still like VirtualBox better. -
Definitely go with the T model. The W, with it's ultra high res will make you go blind! I've got a 17" sony notebook with 1920x1600 and it's ridiculously tiny fonts.

[AddOn] EVEREST Ultimate Edition v5.50.2100
Mr_Smartepants replied to ricktendo's topic in WPI, nLite and RVM Addons
Yes, works great! -
Well, I don't know. But it didn't work. I put CabMaker3.ex_ inside AMD64 folder then right-click .inf select "Install". The file copied to syswow64 OK, but there's no option in "Send to" menu for all users, only the Administrator. In order to work for all users, the shortcut needs to be placed in the "Default" user folder: C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo\ Using the string %appdata% will only select the current user, not default.

I bought a PH for my dad and he loves it. Did you see the new C200 (option for Blu-ray)? I want one badly!

The other nice thing I like about ATI (your friend won't care though) that's great for HTPCs is that HD4xxx series cards and higher have a built-in Realtek HD audio chip so it can output HD audio right over the HDMI cable. Nvidia can't do that without a spdif adapter (internal only).

Thank you! -
This shouldn't degenerate into a ATI/Nvidia thread hijack, but I own a 8800GTS and I used to own Nvidia stock, but I've sold the stock and now recommend people get the ATI 58xx series cards. They use less power and run cooler (and faster) than their Nvidia counterparts. Nvidia has ridiculous power requirements on their latest cards. Also, Nvidia continues to push their proprietary code (CUDA/PhysX) where ATI is transitioning to industry standards (OpenGL, OpenCL). Unless Nvidia pulls a rabbit out of their next hat, ATI is my recommended choice. ccl0 is right. The 5850 is a good choice for a non-gamer. Back to the original post. If your friend uses Photoshop, any current-gen GPU with more than 128mb memory will offer GPU acceleration in PS CS4. The mobo listed DOES support tri-channel RAM, but go with a quality name for RAM or he's asking for trouble. Also, go with a quality PSU (SeaSonic, Antec, etc.). I always recommend Antec cases, but that's just my personal bias. Sounds like a fun build! We want pictures after!

XPtsp GUI v3.0.0.26 - February 27, 2012
Mr_Smartepants replied to dougiefresh's topic in XP Theme Source Patcher
OK, tested with an XP Pro source, with the UP, IE8 addon, WMP11 integrator. After integration, I copied the source to another folder and integrated Rick's MCE addon into this duplicate source. The ONLY difference between the two sources was the addition of the MCE addon to one of the folders. Integrated XPtsp 2.0.0.4 (downloaded fresh "green.7z") into both sources and built two .iso files. Tested in VirtualBox XP Pro worked perfectly. WMP11/IE8 worked/looked perfect. XP Pro/MCE crashed with the following error at first user setup. Hope this helps you a bit more. *Edit Rick just updated his MCE addon. I've retested using the updated addon and this issue still persists. Without using XPtsp GUI, this addon works without error. -

The MCE addon is too big (170MB). I'll try another integration. I think I messed something up with the wmp11 integrator. I'll report back... -

Mr_Smartepants replied to dougiefresh's topic in XP Theme Source Patcher
I'm using user_hidden's update pack XPSP3_QFE_UpdatePack_1.1.0_20090908. There's nothing wrong with XP Pro. It's just all other versions (Home/MCE) are reported as Pro at boot. And the MCE .inf bug. -

Mr_Smartepants replied to dougiefresh's topic in XP Theme Source Patcher
1) All defaults except in "component selection". 'Hex-edit'-unchecked (I use Zacam's during main integration), 'Addl programs'-all unchecked except DSI & CAD2009, 'Prgm resources'-OEMinfo gen is unchecked (I use my own). 2) Batch, I rarely use the addon anymore. 3) WMP11 integrated using boooggy's integrator, OnePiece_IE8_WinXPSP3_v1.5.0_AddOn_ENU (was using Sereby's ENU IE8 addon, but switched) 4) XP Pro OEM & VLK, XP Home OEM, XP Pro OEM modded with Ricktendo64 MCE addon. All updatepacks/addons added using RVMI except for Ricks MCE which is added in nlite. -

(Finished) I need helping building a PC on a budget
Mr_Smartepants replied to LUZR4LIFE's topic in Hardware Field
I'd wait for the Radeon 5xxx series to be more widespread. The power savings mean you could probably get away with using your existing PSU too.
