@mooms, so what you said here - http://www.wincert.net/forum/topic/11774-java-multi-maker-addon-sfx-x86-x64/?p=106450 - is not true after all? Cheers and Regards

@chytrusek, The issue is not whether SP1 is installed or not. The reason there is a big difference in the number of updates available from Windows Update vs Alphawaves Downloader is that Alphawaves includes all the updates from Windows Update, the ones dareckibmw refers to as "official updates", PLUS updates that are normally "request only hotfixes", usually meant to solve specific problems and not usually offered to the general public. In the old days, back when MS continued to offer Service packs for their OS, those request only updates would eventually be incorporated into a SP or roll-up along with the standard updates from Windows Update after MS had performed additional testing to ensure compatibility with existing systems generally available. Since MS no longer does that, it is up to you to decide whether you "want" those extra updates to get the latest versions of all the software components involved vs "risk" using updates that your particular system might not "need" based on your actual system use and hardware and other software you have installed. I, and many others, prefer the "be prepared" approach figuring that if MS has determined that an update solves a particular problem, then I want that update too so that just in case I am ever in that same situation then that potential problem will already be addressed. I have never had a problem created by taking this approach. dareckibmw, and many others, take the more "minimalist" approach figuring that MS has not determined that everyone needs those extra updates, so why increase the size of their installed OS and add more code complexity that is meant to address situations that they will probably never be in. Of course you could also take a modified approach of downloading the complete list, but not using the updates that definitely don't apply to your needs such as extra languages or whatever, but since many system components interact in not so obvious ways, that takes more knowledge and research on your part to do that successfully. That is also why I choose to not remove any system components, as some other folks do, but rather just disable the services and components that I don't need. You just have to choose which approach fits your needs best. As I said above, in all cases I am aware of, the update lists are meant for systems that already have SP1 installed or included in your install source. Cheers and Regards

Welcome to WinCert! Those are all the correct .NET frameworks that you should have installed. SP3 will not be shown under Add/Remove. but if you right-click "My Computer" > Properties, SP3, if it is installed, which it very likely is, will be shown there. Unofficial SP4 is a collection of all of the post-SP3 updates in a single package for ease of install. If you are someone who usually likes to install all of the updates that can apply to your system, then this makes it easy to do that. If instead you like to pick and choose and only install the minimum possible updates, then you might should pass, but read up about it to see if you might change your mind. Cheers and Regards

A small, as I can, complete step-by-step guide to WinToolkit
bphlpt replied to gippetto's topic in Win Toolkit Guides
@gippetto, I hope you don't mind, but I went ahead and downloaded your images from ImageShack and uploaded them to imgur.com, they are still in .png format, and the links to them work as they are supposed to, so I used them in your tutorial, along with some minor spacing and bolding edits, and one spelling correction. I kept a copy of your tutorial as you uploaded it and I will be glad to put it back if you prefer. Just let me know. Cheers and Regards- 30 replies

A small, as I can, complete step-by-step guide to WinToolkit
bphlpt replied to gippetto's topic in Win Toolkit Guides
I always use one of the many free image hosting sites for any images I want to post on any of the forums I participate in, and would suggest you try that. When you click the "Image" button in the Edit Box toolbar, you simply put in the link to your image and the image should appear integrated in the post the way you want it. Some of the many advantages to this approach are that it usually always works in all the forums that I'm aware of, it makes it easier for you to then use that same image in other places if you need to, and it doesn't take up any of the board storage space and takes up less of its bandwidth. And it's easy. EDIT: In looking closer at your tutorial, it seems that you probably tried to do as I suggested, but when you tried to insert your .png images, you probably got this message when you tried to post: so you switched to [ url ] links instead, thinking you were not able to post images for some reason? Well, I got the same result when I tried it, so it's not you. For some reason the board software doesn't seem to like either ImageShack, (I don't have an account there so I couldn't verify that), or it doesn't like .png images, or something. When I took one of your images, converted it to .jpg, and uploaded it to imgur.com, I was able to link to the image, (the image had to have the .jpg extension in the link), and have it displayed embedded in the post as it should be. I'll send a note to NIM, the admin, to see if there is some setting he can change to allow .png images. I would hope he can, because the .png images from ImageShack show up just fine while editing the post, it just won't let you actually save the post. In the meantime, you might want to go ahead and convert your images to .jpg, and possibly try a different image hosting service. Postimage.org or Tinypic.com are two other alternative services. I can do all that for you if you need the help. We'll get it working one way or the other. EDIT 2: NIM confirmed that .png files are already allowed. So I downloaded your 1.png file from ImageShack, and uploaded it to imgur.com, Postimage.org and Tinypic.com. They all worked as desired as you can see here: Here's 1.png at imgur.com Here's 1.png at postimg.org Here's 1.png at tinypic.com Something is different about the way that ImageShack works, or doesn't work. If you look at the BBCode, you will see that the above images are all direct links, ie complete with the .png extension. I don't know if such a thing is available at ImageShack or not. Quite frankly, I tried to use ImageShack to resolve these questions and failed. I discovered that I did already have a free account there, and was able to log into my account, but then was not successful in even being able to upload an image. I got an error message that said roughly -- "One or more image failed to upload. Try again later." -- no matter how often I tried, and I couldn't figure out how to upload an image anonymously, if that is even possible. So to do what you want in your tutorial you might have to either get direct links from ImageShack, or use a different service. That's the best I can tell at this point. I'd be happy to discuss further options with you, either here in the thread or via PM whichever you think is more appropriate. Once we get the matter resolved, I'll delete these posts, or move them to a more suitable location, so they won't distract from the tutorial. As you work to fine tune your posts, you might find it helpful to edit in BBCode Mode, instead of WYSIWYG mode, if you are familiar with BBCode. To toggle in and out of BBCode mode, click the little button in the top left of the Edit Box, directly above the "B" button. It should have a popup label of "BBCode Mode". You might need to make some edits in one mode and some in the other to get it to look exactly like you want it to. NOTE: There have been enough problems in the past with the board software that if you are making or editing a long post I would strongly suggest occasionally saving your post in BBCode mode with "Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C" on a regular basis so that if something goes wrong, and it often will. you don't have to start over from scratch. The IPBoard software can be a royal pain at times. Some folks even prefer to create or edit their post using Notepad or some other text editor and copy the completed post in when it is ready. Thanks again for putting up such a great tutorial. Cheers and Regards- 30 replies

I don't think that request makes sense because the script is meant for portable browsers which do not have a defined location where they are located. You have to tell the script somehow specifically where the browser is located. Cheers and Regards

You would need to ask your question on a RT7Lite forum, if there is such a thing. But RT7Lite has not been updated or officially supported for many years. When you say that you don't have the settings file anymore, I suspect that you actually acquired the image that someone else modified with RT7Lite, (warez?), so I'm afraid you're probably on your own. This board is for helping folks modify their own OS images themselves. Good luck! Cheers and Regards

bphlpt replied to Tuesday77's topic in Site and Forum Issues
In other words, the problem lies with the forum software we use, from IP Board, and is not something that NIM has any way to directly fix. All we can do is report the issues we find, along with as much documentation of the errors as we can supply, preferably documented with a screen capture video showing exactly how the error can be reliably be reproduced. Then MAYBE, if the the IP Board folks can reproduce the error themselves and/or if enough other people also complain, the issue MIGHT be addressed in the next software update, unless they decide that the "error" is actually a "feature" or is "by design", and when if they do address the error the fix could possibly cause other issues. [Can you tell that we have had issues with the IP Board folks in the past? ] Cheers and Regards PS: [OT - Hey Kel, how did the house opportunity work out?] -
@pennsylvaniaron, As a way for you to give back to the community, it might be very helpful to other Win Toolkit noobies if you would please write a brief summary of the steps you use that you have determined create a successful build for you, once you have achieved such a build that is. Written from your point of view as a recent noobie yourself, it might be more understandable for other noobies and will save them some time and frustration, telling them what to be sure to do, and not do, in what order, and what to look out for. Just a thought. Cheers and Regards

Would it make sense to have this as an option rather than require the manual copying of the key? Just wondering. Cheers and Regards
