We'll have to let someone answer who uses component removal, since I don't. Cheers and Regards

I could be wrong, but I thought he meant that he wanted to delete the entire "Metro" part of the Win8.x OS and just leave the desktop only. If that is what he wanted, besides posting his question in the wrong place, I don't think that is possible. If that is what he wants, he'd be better off just switching to Win7, since Win7 doesn't have any "Metro" anything. If that is not what he meant, then I have no idea what he is talking about. Cheers and Regards

From what I understand, the way that Win Toolkit removes components doesn't actually remove them from the install source, it just prevents the "removed" components from being installed. So the install source does get any smaller, (though I don't know why it got bigger for you), but the installed OS is smaller. Cheers and Regards

Windows Evaluation Watermark Remover Addon x86 & x64
bphlpt replied to Jatin Beniwal's topic in Win Toolkit Addons

I don't have a good answer for that, but the problem you will probably run into is that if you are trying to add a HCKU tweak at OS install is that the HKCU, in other words the Current User, won't exist until the user is actually created which occurs very late in the install process, and you can't add a HKCU tweak until the Current User exists. At least that's the way I understand it. Cheers and Regards

Thanks for understanding. You are right that there is not a "rule" about if, but it is rather board/net etiquette or courtesy. If the original Addon maker is no longer active on the board, or if he gives you prior permission, or he asks for help when he is having a problem either with the Addon or in RL, then those would all change the situation. Other boards or even other Addon makers might react differently to the "competition", but not here in this case. Another situation where I think it is perfectly appropriate to post an alternate solution is if there is a difference in application, in other words if one is a Switchless Installer and the other is an Addon. But even then I would hope the two developers would talk and cooperate with each other to make sure they both understand what the other's intentions are, and different threads should be used. Or if substantial suggestions are made in the thread about ways to modify/improve the Addon and the original Addon maker specifically declines to incorporate the changes for his own reasons, then I think it is appropriate to start a new thread with the alternate solution and let the community decide which version they prefer. But remember, hopefully you will be prepared to support your version for an extended period of time, especially if the original Addon maker decides to withdraw his version. Cheers and Regards

@Kormann, IMHO, yes IT IS A MAJOR PROBLEM to do what you did. Reaper has provided this Addon for over five years and last updated this Addon only a month ago, and he is still active on this site. Just because there have recently been a couple of minor updates to the app does not mean he has to update the Addon for each one, no matter how many posts have been made notifying him of available updates. In the past, when others have updated Reaper's Addons without his prior permission, Reaper has taken the approach "Fine, if the other guy wants to make the Addon then that's one less Addon I have to make." and he then pulled his own version and never updated it again, even after the other guy later removed his version. So unless you are prepared to maintain your update for the next five years or more, then just be patient and wait for Reaper. And to post your version in his thread is the absolute height of rudeness. I have moved your post to the trash. If you want to send any of your work to Reaper via PM as a favor to him to hopefully make it easier for him to keep up the many Addons he maintains for the benefit of all of us, then please do so. If he decides to use your work in any way, then it is up to him to decide that. If he decides to incorporate any of your suggestions, I'm sure he will give you proper credit. I realize you had good intentions, and it looked like you did a good job and maybe even made some improvements to the Addon, but please be more respectful of all the hardworking Addon developers on this board. If you end up making any unique Addons that you are willing to share here, and I hope you do, I will zealously defend your work just as vigorously as I am defending Reaper's. I hope you understand. I also encourage you to provide suggestions in the threads of how any of the existing Addons can be improved, but don't post a completed Addon unless it is requested by the original Addon maker. Cheers and Regards

Classic Shell - 4.2.0.0 Windows 8 and 10 ONLY
bphlpt replied to *Reaper*'s topic in Win Toolkit Addons
@Reaper, By the way, what makes this addon applicable to Windows 8.x only? Just curious since I thought it could be used for Windows 7 as well. I always install Classic Shell for my Win7 installs. Cheers and Regards -
Reaper, I hope you will continue in Jonnyboy's footsteps and release the source code as you update it. I'd like to follow along. Thanks in advance. Cheers and Regards

[Slim] .NET Framework 4.6.1 Full x86/x64 (2-27-2016)
bphlpt replied to ricktendo's topic in Installer Repacks
It would have to be very strange malware since he says the two following things are true. Assuming that exe's are some of the "every other download from MediaFire", then that's not it, and he transferred the files from (2) to his computer without them being modified in any way, so just transferring an exe file to his computer doesn't trigger the corruption either, then when exactly are the troublesome downloads being corrupted? Very strange, very strange. Cheers and Regards -
WinToolKit 1.5.3.9: Not Working: Takes FOREVER 2hrs+
bphlpt replied to db_cert's topic in WinToolkit Bugs
I always use one of the many free hosting sites specifically for images such as imgur.com, Postimage.org or Tinypic.com for any images I want to post on any of the forums I participate in, and would suggest you try that. When you click the "Image" button in the Edit Box toolbar, you simply put in the link to your image and the image should appear integrated in the post the way you want it. Some of the many advantages to this approach are that it usually always works in all the forums that I'm aware of, it makes it easier for you to then use that same image in other places if you need to, and it doesn't take up any of the board storage space and takes up less of its bandwidth. And it's easy. You can do something similar with other types of files using MediaFire, DropBox, or your preferred file host, and use the "link" button instead of the "image" button. Help creating W7 ISO for 8GB SSD on Dell Inspiron Mini 9
bphlpt replied to thestem's topic in Win Toolkit
OK, if you insist, then you can try to use either Win Toolkit or NTLite to create an install source that can result in a smaller installed OS, but you'll have to get advice on what you can remove from someone else since I personally prefer to remove nothing from my OS, but just disable what I don't need. I've found I have less problems that way. Cheers and Regards -
Help creating W7 ISO for 8GB SSD on Dell Inspiron Mini 9
bphlpt replied to thestem's topic in Win Toolkit
The problem with your goal then is that even if you are able to squeeze Win7 onto the disc, you likely won't have any room left to do anything. Why not just put a version of XP back on it? You'll have more room left and it might work better on this older hardware. Again, that's just my opinion. Cheers and Regards -

Strange bug attempting to start last version of Toolkit
bphlpt replied to stashekmajcherc's topic in WinToolkit Bugs
I would strongly recommend NOT trying to use Win 10 as a primary daily OS, yet. There have just been too many problems with it that have been reported. As such, I personally believe that Lego should wait until Win 10 gets to RC stage before officially supporting Win 10 with Win Toolkit, even though I'm sure that Win 10 needs all the help it can get. But that's just my opinion. Cheers and Regards -
Here's the English link - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612867.aspx. As gorgone said, please note that these are volume licensing edition keys. As stated at the link - Cheers and Regards

Help creating W7 ISO for 8GB SSD on Dell Inspiron Mini 9
bphlpt replied to thestem's topic in Win Toolkit
Dumb question, but any chance of just installing a larger SSD? I know when it was first offered six years ago a 16GB SSD was an option, and these days you should be able to find a 32GB or 64GB SSD for around US$40. Cheers and Regards -
It works for me. What error did you get? What browser did you use? Cheers and Regards
