Do you feel that most media players, such as Microsoft's Windows Media Player, have become bloatware, overblown applications that need to be slimmed down to their basics --- just playing media? If so, this is the program for you. It looks and works much like an earlier, classic version of Windows Media Player, way back in the days when it was a simple, svelte program. In fact, there's not even an installation program; just double-click the file and it runs. Despite its simplicity, it's a great program. It will play just about any kind of media file you can throw at it, and will even play DVDs. Play media files with this stripped-down media player, reminiscent of early versions of Windows Media Player. No hotkeys, no extra steps, just rearrange the buttons on your Windows taskbar by dragging and dropping them. Allows you to rearrange your system tray icons by dragging and dropping as well (but that does require a hotkey). No need to get all nervous when an application crashes or if you need to reboot; you can reorder your programs exactly as they were anytime by just dragging and dropping them directly within your Windows taskbar! This program does not contain spyware, ads, toolbars, annoyingware, or malware of any kind. That's really all there is to it... if you need any help, post to the forum or contact me. As of version 2.1, you can shuffle your tray icons as well, but that requires you to hold a hotkey (CTRL by default). Homepage download Taskbar Shuffle

UnPlug is a FireFox extension which lets you save video and audio which is embedded on a webpage. UnPlug scans web pages and tells you where things like media players and other embedded objects are getting their data from, and displays it as a simple hyperlink: in most cases, you can then follow the simple download link to save the media file. It doesn't need to connect to external sites to find where media is kept - but it can do if you want it to by downloading the results from KeepVid and VideoDownloader. UnPlug will search, ask and even guess where media is on a website, presenting its results in an easy-to-use results page. UnPlug connects with a number of other extensions, including Down Them All and NoScript. Version 1.4.5 works as a Songbird extension too. Homepage Screenshots Install or see what's new

Foldr Monitr is a free tool that runs in the background and watches a selected folder (and optionally subfolders) waiting for you to add photos to it. Auslogics Disk Defragmenter is simple and faster to use compared to the standard Windows-included defragmenter. The defragmentation map is easy to read and the program is well suited for today's larger hard drives. Display report shows all files that were defragmented, shows names/ fragments/ clusters/ size and results of files.Supports FAT 16, FAT 32, and NTFS volumes. Does not contain any adware or spyware. Pros: User friendly interface; a little faster than the Windows defragmenter. Cons: No automation features; no option to exclude files or folders,if you are running it on Vista, the interface may look a bit out of place as it preserves the XP looks. Briefly said, simple, reliable and quite fast in actions. The number of skipped files was low, one on the system drive and one on each of the other partitions. It is a good free alternative.

Defragment your Registry to juice up performance. Even if your Registry is relatively clean, your Registry may still slow down your system. That's because over time, like your hard disk, it gets fragmented. When you uninstall programs or make system changes that delete or alter Registry keys, even though those keys may be gone from your Registry, the Registry's actual size doesn't change, because it retains the space for those keys. So you may suffer from a too-large Registry, which can slow down your system. This simple, free program promises to solve the problem. It shrinks the size of your Registry, and also makes it more effective by doing a full Registry defragmentation. Run it, and it will tell you how fragmented your Registry is. Then tell the program to do its work, and it defragments the Registry and restarts your PC. It also creates a Restore Point before doing its work, so that you can restore the Registry if you run into any problems. Your computer is filled with cookies placed there by Web sites you visit. In many instances, those cookies serve a purpose, for example, automatically logging you in to Web sites, or letting you customize the way the site works. So deleting all your cookies can make it more inconvenient for you when you surf the Web. Often, cookies have a timeout date. After that date, they simply won't work. However, they'll still be on your PC, clogging things up. This simple little freebie finds those expired cookies, then deletes them. That's all it does --- it's nice, for a change, to see a program that does something so simply and so well. 17. Check Point Software Technologies has unveiled a public beta of the new ZoneAlarm ForceField. ZoneAlarm ForceField is the first virtualised, on-demand browser security solution that creates a "virtual you" to let you bank and shop online, or surf "dangerous" areas of the internet without fear or limitation. Built from the ground-up specifically to fight the emerging browser-based web threats, ForceField also erases all personal information after a web browsing session to further protect consumer privacy online. Features include browser virtualisation, powerful anti-phishing technology and ZoneAlarm's Spy Site Blocker as well as additional "dangerous download" defenses. "ZoneAlarm ForceField uniquely defends against the escalating wave of malicious, privacy-infringing Web threats", said Laura Yecies vice president and general manager of Check Point's ZoneAlarm consumer division. "We use precision virtualization technologies and powerful data security principles to secure Web surfers in a two-way 'bubble of security,' uniquely protecting them from Web threats as well as spyware or keyloggers that may already reside on a PC." A general availability launch is expected in Q1 2008 when the software will be priced at $29.95, but you can find out more, and download the beta version for free now. Link: ZoneAlarm ForceField

Note: Filemon and Regmon have been replaced by Process Monitor on versions of Windows starting with Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1, and Windows Vista. Filemon and Regmon remain for legacy operating system support, including Windows 9x. FileMon monitors and displays file system activity on a system in real-time. Its advanced capabilities make it a powerful tool for exploring the way Windows works, seeing how applications use the files and DLLs, or tracking down problems in system or application file configurations. Filemon's timestamping feature will show you precisely when every open, read, write or delete, happens, and its status column tells you the outcome. FileMon is so easy to use that you'll be an expert within minutes. It begins monitoring when you start it, and its output window can be saved to a file for off-line viewing. It has full search capability, and if you find that you're getting information overload, simply set up one or more filters. FileMon works on NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 64-bit Edition, Windows 2003 Server, Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows ME. Installation and Use If you have questions or problems please visit the Sysinternals Filemon Forum. Simply run FileMon (filemon.exe). You must have administrator privilege to run FileMon. When FileMon is started for the first time it will monitor all local hard drives. Menus, hot-keys, or toolbar buttons can be used to clear the window, select and deselect monitored volumes including network volumes (Windows NT/2K/XP), save the monitored data to a file, and to filter and search output. If you've specified filters then FileMon will ask you to confirm filters used from the last session each time you start it. To start FileMon without it prompting you specify the /q switch on the command line. When FileMon starts it automatically captures file system activity. To start it with capture disabled use the /o switch on the command-line. As events are printed to the output, they are tagged with a sequence number. If Filemon's internal buffers are overflowed during extremely heavy activity, this will be reflected with gaps in the sequence number. Each time you exit FileMon it remembers the filters you've configured, position of the window and the widths of the output columns. Homepage Download Filemon (280 KB)

ShellExView v1.18 - Shell Extensions Manager Description Shell Extensions are in-process COM objects which extends the abilities of Windows operating system. Most shell extensions are automatically installed by the operating system, but there are also many other applications that install additional shell extension components.
