Inbound and outbound system and application firewall delivers powerful protection against a wide range of threats from local networks and the Internet and prevents unauthorized access to your PC. Protection for your OS and applications is easy with System and Application Guard, and File and Folder Lock keeps your sensitive information away from prying eyes. The program activity tracker lets you review system modifications in real time so you know when an application is misbehaving.Web Control ensures you don't accidentally visit poisoned or phishing websites, limiting your exposure to potential identity theft and web-based exploits. The firewall also ensures that your wired and wireless networks are secured against eavesdropping and internal breaches - great for home offices. The Attack Detection module combats attacks from local networks and the Internet. New version 7.6 adds SmartDecision technology to facilitate decision-making in security issues - you get visual guidance on how to better proceed (allow or block) along with a corresponding window color - red, yellow or green.Outpost keeps all of its critical files in a digital sandbox to prevent malware from targeting and terminating its protection. But all of this power is surprisingly light on system resource usage; in particular the new data filtering optimization enables the firewall to process information faster and more efficiently. Above all, Outpost Firewall Pro is easy to use, yet highly configurable, to appeal to beginners and experts alike. And the continuously-expanding ImproveNet database automatically ensures new application security configurations are available as soon as they've passed compatibility testing.Agnitum Outpost Antivirus ProFast anti-malware module combines anti-virus and anti-spyware plus web control. Improved System and Application Guard keeps OS and applications protected, and the program activity tracker lets you review system modifications in real time. Enhanced proactive protection module blocks zero-day threats, and IDBlock prevents confidential information like bank account numbers, logons and passwords from leaving your PC over IM, email or the web. The lightweight, highly-effective scanning engine combines anti-virus and anti-spyware capabilities to detect, disinfect and remove malicious programs automatically. The on-access monitor is constantly on guard against malicious programs attempting to activate on your PC. The on-demand scanner inoculates dormant threats in specified locations, and the mail scanner checks incoming/outgoing email. The attachment filter disinfects corrupted attachments and USB drives are scanned for potential malware threats. The Host Protection module protects against new and unknown malware. By preemptively blocking inappropriate program activity that might indicate an attack, Outpost prevents the high-level security breach techniques employed by rootkits. The constantly-updated URL blacklist automatically protects you as you explore the Web, steering you away from sites that may be infected with drive-by downloads or phishing attacks. Web Control also safeguards you against inadvertent disclosure of personal information, keeping your identity private. Outpost Anti-Virus cannot be deactivated by targeted attacks, a common way to disable active security protection.Defense functions are protected against tampering and termination by sandboxing critical components and ensuring continuous protection. No matter what you do on an Outpost-protected computer, it will always feel like the brand new because the program uses so few system resources. The SmartScan optimization greatly boosts subsequent scan speed and overall system responsiveness. Quote
mooms Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 Outpost Firewall is great! If i am a lucky winner, can i choose between the AV and FW? Quote
NIM Posted November 14, 2012 Author Posted November 14, 2012 Unfortunately no, winners of the each software will be randomly selected. Quote
yogurt Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 (edited) Just my 2 bits. I personally use a Hardware firewall (Router). Much more resource friendly. Plus you can stop traffic at the Hardware level. Software firewalls, in my opinion are lame. However, If I had to pick a Software Firewall solution, Agnitum Outpost Firewall would be the one.Good Luck everyone. bphlpt Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 My opinion, and it's just that, is that you are correct that a hardware firewall via your router is absolutely the best approach. BUT, I also run a software firewall and active antivirus in addition to that. I know many people don't, but I do. And I'm careful where I go on the internet and what files I open. Maybe it's because of all that, or maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never had a virus infestation of any kind, and with the hardware and OS I'm running my response is adequate for my needs, so I plan to continue the practice. But to each their own.Cheers and Regards Quote
NIM Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 The best protection is knowledge. Power user can live with hardware firewall (router) and for instance Microsoft Windows Defender in Windows 8 or Microsoft Security Essentials, although in my opinion Microsoft protection cannot be compared to Eset, Emsisoft or Agnitum AV solutions. mooms Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Hardware FW are maybe the strongest and safest but i don't have one, and afaik they can't deny net access to a particular application wich is essential to me.i use Outpost SS Free for the FW (AV is disabled) and Avira Free for the AV. Quote
