At the end of the install, I get a couple of messages about unregmp2.exe:

 The program can't start because wmdrmskd.dll is missing from your computer.

That would depend on how you prepared your install disk, and what programs you added and/or removed.  Essentially, we need more information to be able to help you diagnose your problem.

I removed some Windows Media Player stuff. I may need to put back something.

 

I will keep playing and report back what works.

Also, WindowsMedia11-KB928788-x64-INTL.exe updates wmdrmskd.dll.

Typically, IF you removed a package cleanly and completely, then an update that effects only the files in that package will not be offered or installed.  As sort of an example, and a bad one but it should serve the purpose, if you do not have Office installed, then you are not offered updates for Office.

Glad you got it figured out.  Of the two you did not remove, one likely had a component something else required to run properly.

I don't need the ultimate minimalist Win7 disc, I just want to remove some of the crap.
