Sorry about the integration problem, you will have to manually integrate it. here's how to do:

in chrome:

1. first open the extensions page in chrome (click on the control button in upper right corner of chrome and go to More Tools>Extensions)
2. browse to the idm installation folder. usually it is at C:\Program Files\Internet Download Manager in a 32-bit OS and at C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Download Manager in a 64-bit OS.
3. Select the file IDMGCExt.crx and drag it to the chrome extensions page. If it asks for confirmation click on Add. Do the same for all chrome-based browsers like torch, coolnovo, etc.

(no need of manual integration in firefox & ie) 

Fixed this in new version v2.1

Thanks for reporting; I have fixed the shortcuts problems and also added some more cool IDM toolbarstyles , in v2.3. Don't mind the dialog box, the extension will be installed(tested in ie, chrome & firefox).

Remade it in Inno Setup & made it smaller (due to better compression, nothing removed), also with extra command-line control now & faster installation; in v2.4

A small mistake: The welcome screen of the setup shows IDM v6.21 build 17, but it is atually build 18. So just ignore it, I will be fixing it in next repak version

Why would you want a desktop icon?  I believe you are most likely in the minority.  I think that most folks, including me, want to keep the desktop as clean as possible and absolutely hate apps that insist on putting an icon on the desktop.  If you really need one for some reason, it is a trivial matter to add one after the app is installed.  But that's just my opinion.

I don't use this but just to be reasonable, it is a lot easier to delete a shortcut rather to make one.

Maybe a switch to make the desktop icon will make peace in both worlds.
