Probably "IsShortcut" string value for LNK filetype is missing in Windows Registry which could be removed by a Virus. Open regedit and navigate to the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Lnkfile In right pane, right-click on empty area and select New -> String Value option. Name it IsShortcut. Close Registry Editor and restart your machine. Quote
doomdorker Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 I've seen AVG antivirus cause this symptom in my Windows 10 installation. Looks like you're on Windows 7 but try and consider whether or not it's a combination of AVG and anything else you're using. Quote
