I don't defrag

i think i've defraged maybe twice in 15 years. However, my favourite defragger today is defraggler.

Yeah, I understand. I do not defrag nearly as much as I used to. That and having an SSD helps too.

30€ for a defragmenter is a litlle high, even if it's the better of its kind.

In the past I have used perfectdisk, was also very good.

The main problem with these tools (excluding the price) is all the bloat they install, like services, startup entries, internet connections....

 

Now I just use Auslogic disk Defrag, it's free and enough for my needs (as many these days my system disk is a SSD).

Auslogics, it's on all my machines.

Yea, thats really true.,

But you can unchoose all in install.

Anyway here is a free vesion of O&O:

And the trial goes 30 days, much time for defrag system.

One time defrag hdds give a bit performance, then you can uninstall.

Its need much time/move big files, thats the system need another defrag.

In my tests, Defraggler was a lot more slower than Auslogics disk-defrag.

 

O&O free is interesting, but when you compare the missing features vs pro version, Auslogics seems a better choice.

Using the trial can be good for a one time defrag, but the real advantage of its kind of defrag software is the scheduled/auto defrag to keep a low level of fragmentation .

 

I like Diskeeper too, it has a service that runs on background, and defrags the system automatically, very smart program

By the way, check this article on ms support:

Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows XP, and Microsoft Windows 2000 include a tool for disk defragmentation. The Windows Disk Defragmenter tool is a limited version of the Diskeeper program from Diskeeper Corporation. Disk Defragmenter does not include all the features available in the full version of Diskeeper.

I never bothered too much with defragmentations. When I think that my PC is slowing down, I just restore my Acronis BackUp, and have the previous speed again.

Thanks for the article @MrNxDmX, it convinced me to try Diskeeper.

 

I do the same and once in awhile a fresh installment follow by a new ATI back up

So basically this thread is like asking which Anti-Virus is best lol ... I hardly ever do a defrag, Acronis back ups works best for me
