i've noticed, that some resources changed, after running post SP3 hotfixes, so here is the Patch, which includes:

gptext.dll, msgina.dll, ntoskrnl.exe, ieaksie.dll (changed bitmaps, cause they showup with pinkish borders in gpedit.msc and rsop.msc as

Internet Explorer Maintenance).

i've also icluded patch for ipsecsnp.dll (bitmaps 202, 203) for gpedit.msc and secpol.msc as IP Security Policies on Local Computer.

last item, wsecedit.dll (bitmaps 205, 211) fixed some ugly black lines, under some folders in big icons view. various black pixels in other places. Just run Patch.exe, it will create %systemdrive%\Patch with files already patched + backups, U can copy those patched ones to system32. oh, U may want to rename msgina.dll to let say msgina.0

enjoy :0)

p.s. resources are from V'ISO 8.2.1, except for changed bitmaps

Patch.exe 1.75 MB

not bad , very good indeed. except the whole window is too high up and i'm confused with

CPU Speed And Installed Memory and Memory Protection readouts

U may want to check

http://translate.google.com/translate?u=ht...sl=ru&tl=en

just scroll down to "Patch - OEMINFO" - "Oeminfo or sysdm.cpl" part, for fun :D

p.s. a little mess on icons 5,7,8. still looks promising

p.s.s. U may want to give a shot Resource Tuner 1.99 R3 trial

I can help with the CMD file (btw i don't proclaim to be a bat expert) but I need somebody to keep updating the resources.

Update

Icons were reworked a little:

1. removed 16 color icons, i mean nobody is using 16, so why keep them ?

refrained from removing 256 color icons, there was such an urge, almost fainted :0)

2. fixed some Lang IDs, there were some Neutral and even Portuguese.

3. 256x256 were removed, XP is not even capable of using those.

- used "XN Resource Editor" (free), amazing tool... let's U remove some formats from an icon in a .res file and U can play with pixels, so i fixed some ugly looking ones. the only minus, it can't do vista icons. Highly recommend this tool...

- played with AVIs, droped some frames to make them smaller. check it out, especially 162, 163, 164 they all different

(frame-rate)

something similar to the .cmd attached. i think it's a batch taken to a new level...

Hmmm amnesia in your resources folder there are 366 files instead of 361 (VISO 8.2.1). Could you please advise how to patch those to a i386 folder?

PS. Do you by any chance know if the files in VISO 8.2.1's "Extra" folder are compatible with XP SP3?

Thanks for the update and all the effort amnesia... keep up the good werk~ :D

Hmmm amnesia in your resources folder there are 366 files instead of 361 (VISO 8.2.1). Could you please advise how

must be the remnants from my previous experiments, i think these are:

dxdiagn.dll.res

winnt32a.dll.res

winnt32u.dll.res

winntbba.dll.res

and so on... never mind them... but, if U insist...

p.s. is there dxdiag.dll.res in your batch ?

Edited by amnesia

In the original 8.2.1 there is only dxdiag.exe.res but no dxdiagn.dll.res.

The extra 5 files in your resources folder are:

dxdiagn.dll.res

winnt32a.dll.res

winnt32u.dll.res

winntbba.dll.res

and

wuaucpl.cpl.mui.res

And compared to your previous releae VISO8.2.1.mod.amnesia, there are total 368 files. And the 2 extras are:

gpedit.dll Backup.res

ieaksie.dll Backup.res

I guess those two Backup files aren't needed?

Update:

I tried to use the original batch file with the extra 5 file patch inserted, and it generates some error about cannot find lable inetres. Then I used the batch file from amnesia.modd version it seems working fine.

U got it all right ... Backup files aren't needed ... the rest is optional... wuaucpl.cpl.mui appears in da system after WU

and messes up Automatic Updates tab in System Properties, wasn't able to fix that, so far.

i just looked at the batch file and yeah its pretty complex,its made to run under a live system,the guy unprotecs all the files 1st(so sfc dosent recopy the original files). as for the FOR if u have a read here;

http://www.robvanderwoude.com/ntfor.html

but if you look at it ,i have no idea why the author wrote his script like this,it seems like overkill to me.

pretty sure these are for RIS installations

it seems U right, "Over-the-net installation program" in file description. but resources have appeared when i used

to run winnt32 installation, and i was trying to get as much as possible resources patched... as of script, it's for resource patcher with 3-4 different styles U can choose and switch at any moment + possibility to get back to original with 7.28 KB (10 KB of total scripts) in size. V'ISO batch ~162 KB. i thought, it would be nice to get it to 7 KB, same as capable...

Tried your new resources update. Simply amazing.

However I find the login screen background to be too bright compared to the old login screen background (same photo just darker).

Amnesia could you please point me where can I find this thing and replace it with the old one?

Thanks. Many many many thinks... :)

ah i understand now why he uses FOR .

...V'ISO batch ~162 KB. i thought, it would be nice to get it to 7 KB, same as capable...

thing is, viso batch has all the lines in the script to each file that needs to be patched, and the other script is fetching the files via a .txt file.so neither batches can run standalone, they both need tools to patch,so i wouldint see why the size of the batch should matter when it has dependancies thtaa re much bigger.

but on the other hand having the possibility to add fiel to be patched via atext file is realy nice,as anyone can update/change the list of file to be patched without having to modify the batch file at all.

Hello again Amnesia, you have been busy!!!

I'm just catching up on everything you have been up to here, and was adding the updated commands you posted in to the viso batch file and wanted to ask you about this...

:winnt32u

set name=winnt32u

set ext=dll

set big=WINNT32U

set com=DLL

These are the only entries for winnt32u, and all other files have a lot more than this, so there seems to be some missing commands here? Or am I wrong?

Keep up the amazing work!
