Rejoice, I am happy to announce that Rafael fixed the problem with the crashing Windows Sidebar and now we can run the Vista SP1 Sidebar on XP (FINALLY!!!)

Just because the Alky website (http://www.fallingleafsystems.com/) is gone does not mean Alky for Applications is dead

Rafael revived the old website http://www.fromvistatoxp.com/ and there he put the reg fix for anyone who is interested in trying

Windows Sidebar v6.0.6001.18000 (longhorn_rtm.080118-1840)

download.png Thanks to HJW for the files

Note: You will have to add the reg fix (above) and also re-patch and re-register the Windows Sidebar files

Added Windows Sidebar + Gadgets (unpatched files) from SP1... Download link is on 1st post

You have to patch the skin, then patch all the files with alky, then re-register the sidebars 3 files (if you don't the gadgets will crash)

This is not the addon, that will have to wait till next week. I am trying to get Rafael to release another fix (the uninstall gadgets) and also maybe have the Gadget Installer by Thomas Pleasance updated

- You install alky for applications (Reboot)

- You merger the .reg file (double click it)

- Then you copy the Windows Sidebar folder to program files

- Copy regsvr32.exe from %WinDir%\system32 to %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar

- Copy %ProgramFiles%\Alky for Applications\Libraries\manifest.xml to %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar and rename it regsvr32.exe.manifest

- Right click on sbdrop.dll and wlsrvc.dll and choose Patch Vista Library...

- Now drag and drop them into regsvr32.exe (the one you copied from system32)

- Right click on sidebar.exe and choose Patch and Run Vista Executable...

- Close the Windows Sidebar

- Now add this to Run:

"%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe" /RegServer
