Highlights of Mozilla Firefox 133 include the ability to show tabs from other devices in the Tab overview menu, GPU-accelerated Canvas2D enabled by default for Windows users, and Bounce Tracking Protection, a new anti-tracking feature enabled in ETP (Enhanced Tracking Protection)’s Strict mode.

“This protection detects bounce trackers based on redirect behavior and periodically purges their cookies and site data to prevent tracking,” said Mozilla.

Firefox 133 also brings two interesting changes for Android users, namely enablement of desktop mode browsing by default for large devices and the ability to handle text copied to the clipboard as sensitive content while browsing the web in the Private Browsing mode.

On top of that, this new Firefox release improves support for macOS Sonoma by addressing two issues related to the emoji picker., adjusts the “expire” attribute value for cookies by adding the delta between the server and the local times, and improves the “Picture-in-Picture: auto-open on tab switch” feature in Firefox Labs to behave more reliably on more websites.

For web developers, Firefox 133 adds support for the keepalive option in the Fetch API, which allows them to make HTTP requests that can continue to run even after the page is unloaded, support for the Permissions API in Worker Context, and support for image decoding as part of the WebCodecs API.

Moreover, Firefox now dispatches beforetoggle events just before a dialog opens and toggle events after the dialog closes to match the behavior of popovers and adds methods on UInt8Array to convert to and from Base64 and hexadecimal encodings as an implementation of a Stage 3 TC39 proposal.
