Mozilla published today the final build of the Firefox 138 open-source web browser for all supported platforms ahead of the April 29th, 2025, official release, so it’s time to take a look at what’s new.

Mozilla Firefox 138 introduces support for copying links for background tabs using the tabstrip context menu on Linux and macOS systems, an improved address and credit card autofill feature that better handles dynamically updated forms, and new Contrast Control settings that let users use the same colors across websites for improved readability.

This release also introduces a new “Show search terms in the address bar on results pages” option in Search settings under the Default Search Engine section and brings back the Quick Actions toggle in the Address Bar section of Search settings, along with the corresponding entry in the Search Shortcuts section.

Firefox 138 also brings back the Firefox Labs feature in settings, from where users can now enable Picture-in-Picture on active videos when switching tabs and support for the address bar to show results during IME composition.

For Android users, Firefox 138 adds support for TLS client authentication certificates, the ability to share a downloaded file or its original URL from the Downloads screen, and desktop mode by default on Android tablets. For Windows 11 users, Firefox 138 adds support for acrylic-style menus for pop-up windows.

On top of that, there’s a new “Report broken site” feature in the hamburger menu that lets users report issues they encounter when using Firefox on certain websites so that Mozilla can fix them for other Firefox users.

Also, the new tab groups feature introduced in Firefox 137 received new right-click tab menu entries to make it easier for users to add or remove tabs to/from groups, such as “Add Tabs to New Tab Group” and “Remove from Group”.

For web developers, Firefox 138 adds support for the error.captureStackTraceextension to avoid incompatibility with other web browsers, support for Error.isError to allow for brand checking whether or not an object is an instance of Error, and support for Import Attributes to specify additional metadata when importing modules.

In addition, it adds support for applications to set their preferred degradation method to be utilized when encoding the configured frame rate and resolution cannot be maintained, enables the cache directive for the Clear-Site-Data header to allow websites to clear the networking cache, and adds support for the import map integrity field to ensure the integrity of dynamically or statically imported modules.

Last but not least, Firefox 138 introduces a new column to the Network panel for displaying the full path of the request URL, which makes it easier for developers to quickly view and analyze the complete request paths.
