This is a great customization. But I only use the bootscreen, logonscreen and shutdown dialog (ntoskrnl, ntpakrnl, msgina, logonui, and the 5 bitmaps in shell32.dll that are related to the shutdowndialogs) and the theme. Now I am interested in using this image from the XPtsp screenshot as logonscreen. It would look great on my TV for my HTPC. Can anyone tell me in wich dll this image is stored after patching?

Also it would be great if the useraccounts would be placed on the dark side of that image, don't know how to do that but I'll learn :)

btw, the bootscreen has a short copyright text. Is it possible to remove the text so that you will only see the progress bar? I tried Reshacker but couldn't find the place where this sentence is stored (I tried the version info but no luck).

U can use attached bootscr.res to change bootscreen bitmaps with ones without copyleft :0). for logon replace bitmap 100 in logonui.exe. as for placement of stuff on logon screen it could be done by editing UIFILE 1000 resource (logonui.exe), but U'll have to find the correct values, wrong ones would cause a problem. i would suggest to google for more info on that... U can use LogonStudio http://www.stardock.com/products/logonstudio/

logonui.exe.100.rar

edit:

changed a little logo on the bottom with better one

That picture is over-compressed and low resolution. I have tried, but not been able to find the original.

Unless your running 800x600 or 1024x768, then a logon screen with that jpeg will look utter crap. Sorry to be blunt, but seriously, have you looked at the quality of that picture when it's blown up to a high resolution?

I just tried looking at it in 1920x1200 and oh my god!!!

I wish Bober could use a nicer one. But i'm not the decision maker here, and I respect Bobers decisions.

Maybe somebody has the original image, then something could be done that would look good.

Wow thanks amnesia!

But the bootscr.res you provided only contains a few of the bitmaps and they don't have that copyleft text. And only bitmap 6 is different from my ntoskrnl.exe. I did replace that image but it had no effect. Still the

I see the only difference between de resources in your bootscr.res file and my ntoskrnl file is bitmap 6. Strange because that doesn't contain the copyleft stuff right? I am going to replace that bitmap because all others are identical (except I have blue progress instead of green/yellow).

i don't think it's gonna work, unless U replace bitmap 1 from .res i've posted

edit:

Open all three of these images into Paintshop. When they open, they will be completely black. In order to see the real images, we have to import the pallet. Here is the palette for Paint Shop Pro: 16.pal. And one for Photoshop: 16.act (you may need to right-click the links and select save-as to have your browser save the files instead of trying to display them). In Paintshop, hit Shift + O and select the 16.pal file.

http://www.thetechguide.com/howto/xpbootlogo/

here it is loaded in photoshop with right color table (16.act), same thing when loaded in XnView with 16.pal

haha thanks man I guess I edited my post while you were creating your post. I replaced all images (except 4 and 8, I have blue instead of green) because I thought there had to be something with those images ;) see my post. I just didn't want to have 2 posts of myself. Sorry!

But it worked :)

btw since you are so kind today. I integrated my ntoskrnl.exe file in my unAttended cd i386 folder. Both files (ntoskrnl.exe and ntkrnlpa.exe) are also in the DRIVER.CAB file. So I extracted the CAB, replaced the originals with the modified versions and used Cab File Maker to compress all files back to Cab. But the resulting cab file is 26MB bigger then the original! I see LZW compression is used according to the ddf dile used by Cab File Maker, as far as I know the highest possible compression.

What compression is used by the XPtsp patcher?

are the files in extra\ trivial to all xp versions, and the ones in home\ and mc\ specific ?

when using rick mc addon In my script I moved the extra files form extra\ to I386 and the ones from extra\mce\ on top so is that ok ..?

i got to test this with my script on with rick's mc_addon but had problems with plus themes errors

so im not so sure what is the cause..

btw what are these files for :win2k ?

ntmsoprq.msc

ntmsmgr.msc

i didn't get ot read the whole thread but this seems an interesting project .

I think there is a dimension problem with my computer props .. otherwise for my first glance it looks great

"are the files in extra\ trivial to all xp versions and the ones in home\ and mc\ specific ?"

yes and no,the files in root of extra are files to be replaced(res files are kept seperate).files that ure used by all xp versions and are the same are; the audio wave files, the bmps and the .msc files. and if you do a compaire of the different files you will see that there are files that are the same to the root of extras(wich are xp pro files), and are also found in mce dir and home dir. so No do not copy over ontop cause you will loose the xp version specific file patching. the way the folders are seperated should not be changed.

"what are these for :win2k ?

ntmsoprq.msc

ntmsmgr.msc

no they are even found in win home, they are the different snapins that you can find in computer management.

if you you check in the batch file near the end you will find comented sections witch are appliyed to xp specific versions. by default xp pro is assumed,so only after the coping/patching or re-patching of files are made depeding on the version of xp the script finds after wards.

...I will translate in German!

i believe german translation was done on V'ISO thread, try to look it up

I would like to change the yellow/green-vistalike-background

of the bitmaps....I would prefer a blue or black one...

blue bitmaps were done already at http://forum.oszone.net/showpost.php?p=613...amp;postcount=2

if U like them, i can get them for U...

Would you please upload the images with reflection-look which are in

front of that background?

but nobody has them here, the original author is Jekson07 of http://forum.oszone.net/forum-90.html

besides, i'm quite sure, U have no idea of how much work is involved, since U'll have to create them from

scratch...

2 zilexa

I tried extracting it (the msstyle file and the .the file renamed extension to .theme) and applying it but didn't work.

did U copy Luna.theme to "%SystemRoot%\Resources\Themes\Luna.theme" and luna.msstyles to "%SystemRoot%\Resources\Themes\Luna\luna.msstyles" ?

@amnesia

.....your batchscript from the V`ISO-Thread works perfect to change

Language-IDs from 1033 --> 1031.....but all dialogwindows and the stringtables

are still English.....must be translated or changed with ResourceHacker.

I downloaded the blue bitmaps from oszone......they are fantastic!!! :thumbsup_anim:

...and of cource I can imagine what a hard work it should be to build them!

again I have to thank you for your help!

i'd like to share my trick with U...

U see, all the dialogs with fancy bitmaps originally were russian. i used Restorator (http://www.bome.com/Restorator/) to

translate. open the file in it, choose the dialog U want to change (english>german)). on the right side switch to "File Browser" tab and create a new folder, open it. now switch to the left pane and from there drag dialog to right pane(folder). a new file will appear there, for example "101.rc", click on it gently and rename to "101a.rc". OK

now, open yer german file, choose the same dialog and drag it to the right pane. open both of them in text editor and copy-paste yer german text strings over english ones in (LTEXT "......."), save. switch to Restorator and drag changed .rc file over to the same dialog in .res file. when U done, rightclick on the filename of the resource filename (something.res) and choose "Set Language ID">german, save. Congratulation, U've translated .res file to german the easy way.

p.s. the german translation was done already, try to find a person i've posted a batch for...
