Has anyone ever used a mobile CPU on a desktop mobo?

I have seen a few articles that state that there is no difference and that a lot of people use mobile CPU's for overclocking because they are designed for low temps.

Thanks

i have and still do.

one difference is some do not come with the integrated heat spreader. if that is the case you need to make sure the heatsink you use will be able to work. and also some are different pin configurations compared to the desktop part. so make sure to do your research to find a compatible motherboard

Exactly, make sure the pins are correct. And as ccl0 said, you may have to modify the mounting bracket for the heatsink. You might be able to pick up a universal bracket online for a few bucks.

if i had to do it all over again i would not have. it was basically a pain in the ass making sure everything would work together

Thanks again. I forgot to mention that I have a friend with a few mobo's laying around. I just have to get a ride over there to see if they will match my little celeron D. Hopefully in a week I can get something together.
