Kelsenellenelvian Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 ECS REALLY SUCKS!I had one of their mobo's and hated it the whole time I used it.Try this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.258819http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161028 2 to 4 of these Quote

I thought about that combo and I am a Asus fan but I was trying to go a cheap as possible, but that would be the better deal if I go AMD. Quote
Mr_Smartepants Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I love Gigabyte boards! I've never had a single problem with them. Never skimp on your mobo!If you can stretch your funds...Mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P ($80)CPU: Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz quad-core ($99)RAM: Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR3 1333 ($39)Total: $218ccl0 is right, you need to look at your PSU also since newer boards (like above) have different power connectors than the older ones. A decent 400W (plenty!) will set you back $60. Quote
LUZR4LIFE Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 (edited) how old is your psuMy PSU is about 2/3 yrs. old. It's a Antec SmartPower 2.0 500w ATX 12v Edited September 23, 2009 by LUZR4LIFE Quote

Mr_Smartepants Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 (edited) That PSU would be perfect if you added one of these 8-pin connector converters for the mobo I recommended. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16812198003http://www.newegg.co...N82E16812186088Either will work at just over $3 investment! LMAO. They don't have a large CPU selection, well under a 100. That was going to be my 1st place but I didn't see much for my budget. Edited September 23, 2009 by LUZR4LIFE Quote
ccl0 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 well if you can bother with rebates, here are two under $100http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.259624http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.259628of course they both have those cheap ecs motherboards Quote
LUZR4LIFE Posted September 25, 2009 Author Posted September 25, 2009 OK, I have pretty much decided to go with THIS.So My question is what RAM should I get.Should I go with: 1066 or 800 Quote
Mr_Smartepants Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 (edited) Oooh, very nice! Definitely go for the 1066 RAM (watch your latencies). The board is DDR2 so RAM is going to be dirt-cheap...go large! 4GB minimum, 8GB if you can stretch it.That board should make a really nice HTPC should you decide to go that route in the future.Nice choice!
