NIM Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I have my quad core q6600 @ 2.66 Ghz for 2 years now. Never had feel the need to overclock it Don't burn it before you start using it Quote

Guest Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 My CPU-z CPU Speed is at 798.3mb. Isn't there away to get that to 3.0G? It's a 3.0 CPU.well maybe it's just cooling it down so no need to use it full speed like only when you play you will use that hole power but in the normal way it won't it's like smart fan works only when the heat is high Quote
ccl0 Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 OK, I have tried everything but can't get my CPU to read 3.0G unless I am running a heavy load.Cool N' Quite [Disable/Enable]thats the reason. cool n'q automatically downclocks your processor when it is not being used. then when under heavy load it ramps up the speed. i would not recommend you disable it because why waste all that electricity if you are not using it? also it keeps your computer cooler and your room as well all processors from the last 3 or 4 years have this implementation. intel does as well, but i forget what they call theirs. i think intel even shuts off some of their cores when not in use.. or maybe that is just in their laptop processors Quote
LUZR4LIFE Posted October 3, 2009 Author Posted October 3, 2009 Thanks cclo. I will give that a try. Quote
NIM Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Yes, my ASUS board also has an EPU chip which saves power by downlclocking my processor once the full power isn't needed. Quote
LUZR4LIFE Posted October 3, 2009 Author Posted October 3, 2009 You are the man ccl0. Now it's running at 2.993ghz. It is so much faster now. Quote
beats Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Yes, ccl0 is right indeed. Cool and Quiet saves energy, but clocks down your CPU. A lot. Quote
ccl0 Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Yes, ccl0 is right indeed. Cool and Quiet saves energy, but clocks down your CPU. A lot. i'm perplexed by that comment, because you make it seem like that is a bad thing. but it does not stay like that all the time. it downclocks the cpu when it is not needed. think about all those people who leave their computers on overnight. all that power being wasted just sitting idle Quote

It would be cool if there was away to activate it when you are going to be away from your PC for awhile to save on energy. Quote
ricktendo Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Thanks I did not know what exactly cool n quiet did until now...I thought it had to do with the fan speed, fast when its hot and slow when its cooler Quote
