spacekowboy Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Hi, I'm installing VNC program on an XP pro domain user member. I was able to install the progran using the 'run as" options, but I'm unable to start the service. I get the following error message:Could not start VNC Server service on local computer error: 5 Access deniedAny suggestions would be appreciated Quote
NIM Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 This is how we do it in our domain:- create a service/batch domain account (like you normally create a user account)- in the properties for this account go to 'Account' and select the Logon To option and give to this account only to PC's where this service will run. If you'll have many PC's, then you may leave this setting as is.- on the XP machine open local security policy using Administrative Tools or just type gpedit.msc- set this user account to logon as a service and to logon as a batch job on the Windows XP machinehttp://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/546.mspx?mfr=truehttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755659(WS.10).aspxLet me know if you need additional help.Nik Quote
spacekowboy Posted September 19, 2011 Author Posted September 19, 2011 I don't have permission to run gpedit.msc on the XP machine Quote
NIM Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Well, to be able to do that, you'll need Administrative permissions on that machine. Quote
spacekowboy Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 If a network pc logs into the domain as a domain user, how are admin permissons given to the user's local pc?Thanks Quote
NIM Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 You have to have admin permissions to SET batch user account that will have permissions to start local VNC service. Quote
spacekowboy Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 Where are these permissions set at the pc or the server? Quote
