With respect to Kel's previous suggestion, may I offer another?

Year.Month.Day Build Hour

Where year is the last digit of the year

Month and Day are the numerical representation

Hour is the number in 24 hour format GMT

Build Hour could be left off, and only added on those rare occasions that there is more than one release in a day.

So a release now would be:

1.11.07 -or- 1.11.07 Build 16

To eliminate confusion with the current numbering scheme, begin this revised scheme on Jan 1st, ie with version 2.xx.xx. Just a suggestion.
