Drake Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 here are my perils with Vista.PC Specs:AMD Athlon64 3800+ 2.4ghz 512kb L2 cache2.0GB RAM240GB total HDD spaceNvidia GeForce FX 5500 PCI 128MB DDR 400mhz vRAM 270mhz GPUOnboard Realtek alc850 8 channel Sound cardCreative SBLive! soundcardWhen I initially installed vista, it was apparent that my creative sound card didnt work. when I did a Windows update, it found the drivers for it, but the audio was really distorted, I did manage to get the XP drivers to work for it, but some of the features were disabled. (Bass and Treble controls) then after a few weeks I got a BSODLuckily Nvidia had a vista driver and it worked fine. Printer worked fine, in fact the sound card was the only issue. Also when I installed my Realtek Drivers, half the features of the software that it came with was GONE compared to XP.Software was fine, except for acid pro. when I ran it and was compsing a song, I would play it back and the playback was horrible. I heard pops and so on. some programs that I wanted to run were incompatible, like my good 'ol comodo firewall.Eventually I noticed a complete slow down of the OS and file copying seemed like it took forever. the search functionality was nice.some games were ok on it. quality of graphics was good. but framerate was horrible, I had to turn down the graphics all the way on need for speed carbon just for it to run at a decent framerate.then I decided it was time to go back to xp. been back on it for about a week now. glad I switched. JurgenDoe Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 (edited) In my own opinion is Vista not worth to be installed that's why I stick with XP :thumbsdown_anim: First of all is Windows Vista not worth the asking price: 4 GB iso or $300 because Vista doesn't have so much new features! Why? Almost everything in Vista can be used in Windows XP via 3rd party software!Photo Gallery: Google Picasa 2 (maybe even better then wpg)Media Center: Media PortalAero - Window BlindsFlip - TopDesk.I'm not talking about Themes, Fonts or System sounds etc. Many articles about vista stating:NOT SECURE ENOUGH! (security holes)NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MANY PROGRAMS/DRIVERSEATS TOO MUCH MEMORYRUNS GAMES & PROGRAMS SLOWER THEN Windows XP USER INTERFACE - HARDER TO REACH MUCH NEEDED FUNCTIONS, LIKE FOR PROFESSIONALS!And another reason why it isn't worth @ all:WINDOWS SEVEN SHOULD BE RELEASED IN 3 YEARS, WHY DO I NEED VISTA IF IN 3 YEARS I MIGHT INSTALL SEVEN? Drake Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 I wonder which gadget is that, the one below the windows flag, near the start menu?Seems cool to me.if your talking about the calendar gadget here it is found HERE Quote
Mr.Thunderbird Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 WINDOWS SEVEN SHOULD BE RELEASED IN 3 YEARS, WHY DO I NEED VISTA IF IN 3 YEARS I MIGHT INSTALL SEVEN?Is there going to be a new Windows AGAIN ? Quote
NIM Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Is there going to be a new Windows AGAIN ? Yes, this time we wont wait long for the new version!Seems that Vista well be forgotten soon :icon_rolleyes: Quote
Mr.Thunderbird Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Wow, then what is the reason of working a service pack 1 for windows, instead they should use their time to make the new windows better ! Quote
NIM Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Wow, then what is the reason of working a service pack 1 for windows, instead they should use their time to make the new windows better ! Well, a lot of people bought Vista and expect support for it. BTW, did you know that Vista SP1 will take app 1 GB of your space and will need about 7 Gigs just for the setup? Quote

JurgenDoe Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 It's just amazing and ridiculous what Microsoft has done so far with Vista. A loss of 8 GB just for SP1 is to much and Vista isn't worth it @ all Quote

Bold_Fortune Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 We've spent quite a few years tweaking and taming Windows XP. It will take quite a bit of time to tweak and tame Windows Vista, too...but it will eventually be done. ...I'm just not interested in going through that all over again. XP seems to serve my purposes. LUZR4LIFE Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 I have to say that I like XP better. I am running both of them but there are a lot of thing that are not Vista compatible. Even with a q6600 and 3g DDR2 XP still runs better than VISTA. Quote
